Break-Out Box 900 1994

Can someone advise me on what a "Break-Out Box" does for OBD I cars and if it should be part of my Volvo tools?

If so, what is the Volvo Part Number so I can find one on EBay or see if BrickBoard member has one for sale.

Not an actual "break-out-box" But there is an extensive thread on turbobricks:

    http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=227153
    and
    http://ipdown.net/jetronic.info/tiki-index.php

Where there were efforts, with some success to reprogram the LH2.2, LH 2.4 and EZK boxes using the Moates Ostrich chip emulator and Tuner Pro software.
There is a way to achieve direct real time readings from the computers which can be read and modified on a lap top.
There is a steep learning curve, stuff to buy and lots of experimentation necessary.

    Hello,

Such box is to monitor signals in/out the ECU. You'd have to interpret the raw live data to facilitate in repairs. Whereas our OBD I mostly does the interpretation leaving us simple enough codes to do the rest.

    Hope this helps,
    Amarin.

that's a 35pin breakout box for the harness to the ecu. what I did years ago was take another harness and t it to the box. that way I have a male and female connector and be able to check live voltage. good luck, chuck.

    Dear 94 945T,

Hope you're well. I can't recall a post in the past several years, describing any sort of device being used to download/read 940 diagnostics. The only sources for 940 diagnostics are the two "black boxes" mounted on the driver's side strut tower (North American models). For the proper way to obtain codes, see this site's FAQs.

So far as I know, only 1996 and later rear-wheel-drive Volvos (e.g., the 960 and S/V 90; the 940 was not marketed in North America after 1995) were equipped with OBD-II. Cars with OBD-II have a connector, to which a code reader may be attached.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook
