Power Steering Pump - replacement source? 200 1993

Hi there - looks like my next project is the PS pump. The bearing is making noises and I've had a few times when the steering froze momentarily while backing out of a parking space, with associated belt squeal. Then all was ok/normal again, but seems like the pump has given notice. Looked at FCP/IPD but no luck for a 93, also tried my "local" used parts - no luck. Found one on Autoparts warehouse re-mfg by A1 Cardone. Anybody tried them or had a similar experience? This is my first PS pump on over 500k of 240 (3 diff cars).
Thanks,
JP

currently, there are about 10 pumps for sale on ebay for 35-60 dollars. you might also consider pulling your pump and putting a new bearing in it. a good parts house can match up a bearing for you. I have bought cardone products for many cars and never had a problem.

Seems weird that FCP doesn't have something if you really need the pump, you might try calling.

Another source might be Voluparts in Atlanta, though I don't live there, when visiting family I had some time (and needed some bits) so I stopped by as they were only a few exits south of where I was. They have all kinds of used Volvo stuff, I mean serious stashes of parts. Last year I saw a large pile of PS pumps in the back room. They are cool guys, right out of 1970's, they will even hand write up your tab, and yeah, they'll mail order, they have new parts also. No affiliation, just a few good experiences with used parts, of course, your mileage may vary. Good luck.

Joe,

I've had good luck dribbling some oil onto the protruding shaft to get it to the bearing/bushing. Also lube your steering u-joint because that can bind up.

Marty

Mike/Joe - thanks for the reply's - roger that on Voluparts, they are my "local" yard(I'm in FL) and they usually have what I need but not this time, maybe, they called me back and are checking around, in the meantime I'm looking into plan B.
I've lubed the U joint and also done the oil dribbles, but based on the noise I hear, I think I'm just buying time until I can get another one.

Arrrrg darn accessory bushings......so I was poking and prodding the PS pump to see if it would tell me what was wrong, happened to look down and the A/C compressor was cocked over at about a 10 degree angle....now what..... Yeah 3 of the bushings were so toasted the were goooonn. The top front was fine. But I replaced all 4, just like I did 6 years and 80 k ago. I'm using the Uro blue poly's and keep bunch in stock for some strange reason......Some lessons learned - take the belts off, use the crank bolt w/ a ratchet to help with the A/C belt off/on. To install the top rear bushing I used a BF screwdriver, lyng on my back under the engine and stuck it up there past the starter, wack the end with a hammer with the tip on the bolt head in the bushing, went right in. After replacing the bushings, get the top rear bolt started before doing the others. Then get the other bolts fairly set but not tight before you re-install the A/C belt - it goes on pretty tight. Other than that it's a pretty easy 4 hours fun afternoon job with just enough bad words in the english language to cover it. Now where was I? Oh yeah - the PS pump. So we'll see if that was a factor, if it still needs to be changed I'm gonna order the Cardone one, I'll report back soon.
