Pick and Pull advice 200

I have a 84 240 wagon. I need the bumper trim parts; the ones that go across the top of the bumper. Does the sedan of the same period use the same trim parts on the back bumper or are they unique to the wagon? Do the later wagons (post 86)use the same parts as the previous wagons? We're running out of mid 80s cars down here in San Diego and I hope there's some commonality with the later ones. Also, I want a tach for my car. Does anyone know if one from a 740 will work? Thanks in advance!

Maybe contact 'Redwood Chair' on TB, he knows and may have the parts.

As stated, wagon and sedan are different. 84 and 85 are different than the commando bumpered cars, which are different again than 86 and later.

The old style "commando" bumpers take different trim than the newer 240s. They're rubber vs. the newer plastic and so are less fragile.
I'm pretty sure they're switchable from sedan to wagon.
Keep that wagon on the road.

I have been looking over my '91 sedan to my '86 wagon and can say the rubber trims are no where close. The wagon has a more flatten out area that is filled with stainless steel trimmings.

I have a '84 sedan but its at my second house about 600 miles away.
What I can tell you is the trim on it is very unique to its era. In those years they bumped out the trim with ledges around the windows on the doors. Beauty rings on the wheels. Whole different mind set.
The wagon and the sedan door trims may interchange in that area as a complete door can be swapped in to place.

So I am going to say No on the sedan bumpers to the wagon bumper trimmings. The bumpers by themselves might fit as they could be mounted in or out more to the body. Then each other trim could fill in the difference for that wagons beefier hauling look fitting up to the big rear hatch.

As far as the clock you must be talking about the cluster tachometers being the same diameter.

I know the dash surrounds have totally different width spectrum. I think the clusters are wider in the 700 series.
Instrumentation could share parts but they went out of their way on a lot of things to cut ties with their older box style 240's.
Someone convinced them Cadillac's & Buick's looked more modern and had luxury lines!
You either love it or hated it from the get go! It was not long until the 900 and new 850 's went into the boxing ring. The 7's quickly became ugly step child's!
I do not feel nearly the disgust for them to be in the scrap yard as I do the 240's.

The new idea of a relay control center really bunched your shorts even though you could access it rather easily. You later found out car was built around it like our 240 fan! It was a true hybrid of upgrading ideas between the 2's and 9's series.

That said, its a pig in a poking contest on the tachometer fitting perfectly!
The speedometers and gauges are definitely different looking!

With PNP you are better off buying the whole cluster than just the tachometer as they might charge almost the same. You can dump a whole cluster.
You are better off buying a whole door than just window or motor out of the door. The whole door goes for $45 at the PnP's here.

Price things out for they might sell the bumpers that way too. Do your talking before pulling. Otherwise, they Pick N Piece you to death at the counter after you have toiled!

Good luck
Phil
