Crank and auxillary shaft gear puzzle pieces. Please help! 200

Its been a while since I took my car apart and now I'm having trouble figuring out how to put it back together.

Can someone please tell me ..... Is the shear pin on my crank gear partially gone? There are not pins on each side of the crank gear that will line up with the slots the timing belt guard.

And.... Where does the other piece without the slot go? Does it go behind the auxillary shaft gear?

What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance.

"Is the shear pin on my crank gear partially gone?

No shear pin on crank gear. The "built-in" square key on gear aligns it with slot on crankshaft "snout".

"There are not pins on each side of the crank gear that will line up with the slots the timing belt guard."

True. But the "nib" on the front face of the crank gear (keyed to the crankshaft) will fit the notch on the back face of the crank pulley, thus "timing" the pulley to the crankshaft.

The belt guard marks are merely offset references to the crankshaft position, "offset" so they can be seen and used when everything is back in place.

The square key on my gear that slides in the crank snout slot is only abour 3/16" long. Should it be longer?

"True. But the "nib" on the front face of the crank gear (keyed to the crankshaft) will fit the notch on the back face of the crank pulley, thus "timing" the pulley to the crankshaft."

So the timing belt guard at the front of the crank gear is between the gear and the pulley with the nib lining everything up. What about at the back of the crank gear. there is no nib for the back timing belt guard. Is that just how it is?

Do you know where the last part in the pic goes .... I'm not sure what to call it ....its smaller than the timing belt guard and it fits perfectly over the axillary shaft. I'm thinking it goes between the auxiliary shaft gear and the axillary shaft seal.

• No, because there's no "load" on it once the crank pulley nut is torqued down properly (44 ft, lbs. plus angle tighten 60° more).

• Yes, if you're referring to the 2 cup-shaped washers that Volvo calls "Locating Plates".

• I'm stumped on that one. Don't see anything like what you're describing in the parts diagrams. I show the one below only for the belt cover locations.
