What is this and where does it go. 200

I'm in the middle of replacing my timing belt, front shaft seals and the front lower cover gasket.... the cover is where the crank and auxilary seals are pressed in. I took this off but now I don't remember where it goes. It fits nicely over the auxilary shaft but I don't see what it is for. If it goes on the back side of the cover I'm probably going to just leave it out.

Can someone please help me.

Does anyone know what year it is and tried to look in a green manual for a diagram?

after seeing the picture 200

it appears to be one of the two large washers (for lack of a better word) which fit either side of the crank sprocket with the t belt in between

if upon looking at the crank sprocket you find only one washer then that is what it is and ought to be installed

I agree that this "object" resembles the 2 belt guide washers that go on the crank (one on either side of the belt). But I this one doesn't seem to have the shallow, dish-shaped profile of those two.

Other than that I'm clueless, and can't recall ever seeing it anywhere on a Volvo.

Keeping the thread alive...

i concluded this is one of the two washers because if you look at the partially shown one those indentations are clearly from the crank sprocket and it too has the same odd rolled over lip

Picture of B230 T-Belt "Washer' for comparison to unknown part 200

The Original Poster seems to have vanished, but FWIW here is the front T-Belt Locating Plate (as Volvo calls it) pn 1357621.

Note the smoothly curved shape (no radiused 90° corners). The rear plate (3531184) is the same but with no indexing tab or notched rim for reference to TDC position.

Front Locating Plate ("washer")

first of all you never have to remove the aluminum lower seal carrier cover unless the gasket is cassing it too leak.

just pull the old seals out of it and press new ones in.

that said since you have removed the cover and left out the seal cover gasket more likely than not you will have leaks if you do not undo your error and fix it.

if this is the left out part it isn't optional

My main intention was to replace the lower cover gasket. I replaced the seals and the timing belt because I was already there.

This is my third 240 wagon. I've logged almost 350,000 miles in a 240 wagon and have always performed my own repairs. There's not much that I haven't already done. I'm blaming my temporary memory loss and my confusion on the fact that I'm performing this work in my girlfriends driveway with temperatures hovering around 95 degrees.

Is my picture of the part I'm asking about showing on my post. Hit "print all" if it is not displayed.

The pic WAS showing a while back. My MAC doesn't have a "Print All" function that I know of. The part doesn't look like anything I've seen when replacing seals, even when done with cover off.

Is there a part number on it? If it's Volvo OE and not a vendor item we could try a part number search.

It's not a t-belt locating washer. It won't fit over the crank. It does though fit nicely over the auxillary shaft.
