Saw this in the junkyard - 91 240 WITH 92,000 miles!??? 200

I thought - that's awful low miles for a broken odometer...
Opened up the instrument cluster and low and behold the odo gear was good!

the body looks like it's been sitting somewhere for years, front and back glass both shattered...

so I have two questions for those who are familiar with these 240's

1. Do you think it's possible to remove the front windshield trim so I can re-use it to install good windshield glass that I already have (as far as I know there is no way to purchase just the trim for these windshields anymore)?

2. I have about 25 days to get parts off of this car - what would you get??

I don't think I'll ever see a 240 with this low of mileage again so I'm being an opportunist!

Thanks!

You might want to but the whole car and use it the rest the way up!

Nowadays its cheaper to buy the whole thing as a unit.
    Price it and see.

There is a '93, I think, at Tallant Bros. Salvage (Dawsonville, GA) with 54k miles. Engine/manual transmission gone as is the steering rack that I bought for $75. Thought about buying the whole thing. Scrapped because of engine problems but the rest of the car is perfect. Cloth interior.

I am pretty sure they won't sell it whole - I've tried to do that in the past at this Pick-n-Pull and they say they can't sell it for some reason - I guess I could ask though...

unfortunately I don't have anywhere to put it unless I decide to have my wife divorce me!

then I'd have to find an apartment that had extra space for Volvos!

Ever heard of a hold out bank account for Christmas.
You need your own storage building! (:-)

I have asked PNP about selling whole cars. They do it occasionally they said.

They themselves fix up cars for resale out in California and you know how crazy this state is!

I am sure you end up with the words "salvaged" on the title but that only means you cannot but collision insurance or a bank will not finance it!

I am member or their Tool Kit Rewards program and they hold half price days early for members usually before big weekends.
The whole door is $45 is now $30 with all the fees added!
I have a set with keys and a complete steering column w/ air bag wheel and ignition switch $40. You want a switch lock and keys you do that anyway! I got the seats and a month later that car was crushed!
I left that car as a mere shell! They got half the money during the sale but it got moved!

This means they need to they are willing to ... Wheel and deal!

Each manager has leeway to do certain things at their discretion along company policies.

You wave enough "green" for them to "smell " they will consider their options!
SOME words are in the Spaces between lines lines above to read.....? I See one....capitalism!

I have not bought a car from them but I have seen cars come in and leave within two weeks of hitting a row.
I mean the whole car! Swooped up, like it had a spot on top of it that the vulchers look for!

They don't set them out on the main yard versus over their premier yard except to tease up any pending offers, I think.

Their all game players, like the difference between stored parts reclaimers or the recyclers we can access.

All part of the "off blue book" world the insurance companies and the orchestrated auction blocks!
A Term might be, licensed crooks and the friends there of!

If you cannot get the whole piece, buy the biggest piece you can live with or part some parts with, its less expensive overall!

Pays for the hobby or makes for a different way to live and drive on the classic side! (:-)

        Phil

I was wondering about that - I've seen cars disappear long before the rest of the ones on that row - and I was getting some find parts off of one!

I went and asked the manager and he couldn't explain what happened but assured me they don't sell them once they've hit the yard.

          Very frustrating!

          Thanks for the suggestions!

            We're all a bunch of "Volvo Vultures' ! 200

I coined that phrase about 25 years ago when I first caught VAS(Volvo Accumulation Syndrome).
I don't think it will be worth the squeeze for the windshield. I think it's going to leak. Just my $.02.

              Oh Boy !
I now have a diagnoses! My wife wants to know what the cure is for it!

I told her he probably does not have one! He is on the BB right now!

It has gotten worse after I retired. I now sit down on an old car seat with managers and talk after the morning of a part pulling extravaganza!

You got to talk to them, a little at several different times, to get their tool box a rattling!

Their pretty well trained to be tight lipped or they would still be out there under the cars instead of moving them around!

It's what an older mans "part poppers" job turns into at these type places!

Its strange but those managers, that I have met, are all X military, Army or Marines!
              Maybe LSS!
              Lonely Sarge Syndrome
              (:-) kidding

          Minor disagreement:

          "10.window regulators x 4, motors, glass x 4"

Unless you regularly roll the rear windows down, skip those regulators and motors but DO get all the window switches you can.

"15. the tail gate hinges and the hood hinges"

Hood hinges make sense bu the tailgate hinges might be as worn as your own.
