eBay: 1989 Volvo 240 Wagon US $19,950.00 200 1989

"1989 Volvo 240 Wagon 1 OWNER 5 SPEED Manual SUPER Low 66K Miles CARFAX"

The same seller has ~5 240s starting at $8950. This summer it took a friend 3+ months to sell a rust-free and mechanically sound 1990 245 for $1700 (Ohio).

For 20 grand I would expect the car to have its bumper striping tape intact, and not have crappy plastic wheel covers which look like they are from a later Volvo. Another of the seller's 240s is 12 grand and is missing its front valence.

Note this copy-paste on that ad: "THIS VEHICLE IS SPOTTLESS - THERE IS NOT A SIGNLE ONE ON THE MARKET"

First is he doesn't know how to spell, second is many of us know how easy it is to replace the odometer. I did make him an offer: $300 and he delivers.

As others have commented before, a 20+ year old car with low miles is not a "new" car. Even if it has been in dry storage and rust free, rubber seals and other parts do deteriorate over time. Not to mention the possibilities of piston ring grooves in the cylinders if the motor wasn't properly rotated, etc...

Has a 240 ever sold for more than $12k on eBay?
I've seen a few examples reach the $10k mark.

That person is suffering from time warp and has worm holes in his head!

I wonder if that person has a mattress "safe" their sleeping on for sale too? Big dreams going on there!

$20K is probably what it sold for "if" they got a good deal on it at the time. 66k in mileage must be their interest they think they made on that mattress money.

They had better stick that car in a time capsule and wait about twenty more years.

That way when the "dollar" is worth about 10 cents apiece the numbers will line up correctly.

Phil
