A Lighting Issue.. 200 1987

Found an abandoned 240 grocery-getter..in somewhat fair condition..rust,here and there. I have replaced all charging components and the turn signal lever. I am perplexed by a lighting issue..When I turn on headlights my left tail light goes completely dark. The brake lights work fine as well as hazard flashers. My front left parking light is also not illuminating(have replaced 3 blown fuses) All bulbs are good..any suggestion on a fix would be greatly appreciated!

Regarding the "left tail light" symptom... do both tail lights work in the middle lighting position (parking lights they are) and do the corresponding front marker lights (parking lights they are) also work?

That's a pretty concise answer. Let me make sure you are saying what you are saying. All lighting is dark if you put the light switch in the parking position - middle spot - and you have your ignition key in your pocket. True?

My process for this would be:

Grounds!!! Check ALL the grounds for the lighting.

Check integrity of the wires going to each light. The fact that the lights work could indicate the wires are okay, except for maybe the left parking lamp issue.

Check to make sure the headlight switch is good, including the rheostat for dimming interior lights.

Check any relays attached to the lights.

Process goes from cheapest diagnoses to more expensive, so hopefully you'll find the issue with the less expensive checks.
