240 Door Removal 200 1992

Hello,
I couldn't find any posts on this topic and Bentley didn't address it either. Is removing one of the side doors as simple as tapping out the pins (upward) on each of the hinges? Any gotchas to be careful of? I'm sure having someone hold the weight of the door while doing this is important. Anything else?
Thanks!

Besides marking an outline of the hinges and placing a jack under the door (I would build up wood blocks under the door in two locations) and thirdly, jack up the car on the side of door work to relieve spring tension and movement. These may speed up the work, add safety and assure greater accuracy of door location to frame.

    For the fun of Volvos,
    Mike

    No, pins don't pound out.

Remove the bolts from the hinges, depending on why you are removing the door. If you're working alone, use a battery impact wrench with a 12mm socket in one hand to remove the top bolt last, holding the door by the window frame in your other hand.

If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there.

With all due respect to the venerable Mr. B, I would suggest you use a floor jack to hold most of the weight of the door as you fanagle around with the hardware. I wrenched my forearm that took two years to heal from the contorted position of holding the door by it's bottom with my left hand on a left hand door R&R. I may be easier to hold to door at the window as Art suggested, but I'd still use the jack as a "helper".

You're right Marty. Safety above all.

I was eager to answer because just last month I removed 4 doors, and by the time I got the 4th one off, I thought I got the method down as captioned above.

Did make it sound simpler than it is.

Art is that blue seat back a passenger side, no holes?

It was, sir. It had holes, but just those you'd expect; the holes for the headrest and lumbar knob. The car was totally under water, but had I known of your interest, I would have squeezed the floodwater out of the foam for you. :-)

Seriously, I did save the seat bottom covers for my daughter, and they came out of the washing machine in great shape.

      Thanks for setting me straight!

My door was damaged by someone backing into it so I am going to replace it with one from a junkyard. Hopefully I can get everything realigned.

You will be leaving the hinges on the pillars. When you reinstall the new door just follow the outline of where the hinges were. You should be close.
