Flame Trap Replacement on v-90/965 S90-V90 1998

Where is the flame trap located on the 960/965/V90 and what is required to replace it? Do the intake manifold have to be removed, and the fuel rail, or can it be done pretty simply without removing much.

Thanks.

If memory serves, the dealer procedure to replace the flame trap and breather box involves pulling the intake manifold assembly. Some also remove the power steering pump and alternator and go in from the front.

I have cleaned the pcv and breather by dumping a quart of engine flush down the flame trap hose and letting it drain out the oil drain plug. If it's really plugged, you will be better replacing. Synthetic oil will also help.

Here you go...

If the 6 cylinders have a flame trap screen, I'd consider tossing it. I threw away the one on my 95 850 (same engine minus one cylinder) 6 years ago upon purchase and never regretted it. Also threw away the one on my 90 240. No issues with either car.

Is this a maintenance item for you or do you have an oil consumption problem? If it is an oil leak or consumption issue and replacing the flame trap doesn't solve it then I would go after the oil separator next.
