Hi, I am looking at buying a 1991 240 wagon. one of the cons is that the fuel gauge does not work. I have owned many 240's and have not met this issue before...on the 740's and 940's ....yes! Is there a cure for the 240 or is just common to the 1991..? Thanks, Kris

On my '92 the fuel pipes coming out of the tank were rusty to the point of leaking, so replacing it could be good preventative maintenance. Be sure to get a new (genuine Volvo is reputed to be the best) sealing o-ring and a new lock plate.

Hi,

It probably just needs a new fuel sender in the fuel tank. Nothing out of the ordinary. Around $60 for an aftermarket assembly.

....and if you're going to keep the car for a while, take a hard look at the pump/outlet hose while you have the pump/sender ass'y out. That's the time to replace the pump and the outlet hose....

OK! Thanks! So the fuel gauge will not impede my buying this car....have not seen or driven it yet, I'll let you know...seems like a deal from afar. Kris
