Passenger side brake lights out 200 1991

Hello:
My wife's 91 sedan has lost power to the passenger side brake lights. I have found no voltage is coming from the yellow feed wire.
I swapped out the bulb out sensor and had no change at all,the driver and middle light work fine.My Bentley shows a connector between the light and sensor .
I suspect this may be the problem but it got dark and I quit for the day Any one know where this connector is located ? I have temporary fixed the problem by jumping the both sides together but of course the failure indicator stays on

Thanks

The connector you are looking for is the one they buried above your left foot. It is rarely a problem, but I gather you already know the wiring in the back of the car so this is where you're headed.

The yellow wire is in pin 20.

Thanks for the responses, this will give me some direction Sat. when i get a chance too look at it again.
I cut the yellow wire where it come by the brake lights on the drivers side and spliced both sides together
all the lights work now but the drivers side is now feeding the passengers side as well
so i know the wiring is good in the trunk
I plan on checking the wire all the way back to the sensor now
Albert

Hi HALBO49,

You message remains unloved with no reply for this time.

Do you still have a fault in the 1991 Volvo 240 sedan right rear, lower, outer red lens tail light assembly?

The connector you see in the (wish I had mine) Bentley is on the (as you sit inside the Volvo 240, looking to the front) left side whether wagon or sedan. If your left side, outer, lower red lens brake light works, so go up the wire harness to find the connector. A quick plug and unplug.

Also, check that the connectors at the tail lights are snug and secure. Corrosion can form between the brake light connector contact with the bare copper contacts on the tail light flexi boards. Sometimes a wiggle helps, or a shift of the connector.

You say the yellow + 12 VDC wire does not show current at the passenger side tail light connector? At the contacts for it or the wire inside the connector?

I've had to open the white opaque wire harness tail light connector and shift the wire around, sometimes a wire end nip and reseat, so the connector contact pin inside, ti which the wire secures, gets fresh conductor material contact to the tail light connector pins. Probably want to check that first. The tail light connector easily lifts open with small screw driver, to reveal the wire harness termination inside the connector.

The bulb out sensor blows. By passing one meant somewhat bright lights. I also did a fuse box service, also making the lighting brighter and the power windows to move faster.

I've also had to use pliers to slight close the 'mouth' of the connector where it seats on the tail light contact.

Hope that helps.

Questions?

Sorry. Did not consider it in your posts. I'll guess the bulb out sensor you swapped in to test was defective in a similar manner?

On my 1992 240 GL, I bypassed the bulb out sensor. Opened up the can, debated on a jeweler's loupe (magnifier thingy you hold you your eye-bulb socket), and locate cranked welds with delicate solder pencil in hand. The thing smelled well-scorched, like burning circuit board or burning polystyrene more so.

Remove the innards.

I found some illustrations that Art B. put up and also info at Dave Barton's site, and decided to use heavy gauge, high temp stranded copper conductor to jump the pins at the base. The cover snapped back in. Since then, no problems, and all lights that would route through the sensor (for bulb out detection) are way brighter. Head lights, brake lights, and the rear running lights. I went through the fuse box, connectors, and grounds and such so they were clean for the heck of it.

One still considers some sort of LED conversion to make the lights brighter. Yet you can find plug in bulbs now that merely pop in to your tail lights. I guess headlight sometime soon.

The tail gaters worry me here. 240s or 700s of worth region-wide are rare.

Sorry to go on so. Here comes the tea. Happy Thursday! Glad it's fixed!

Be sure to take a picture of the connector before you open her up. To know where each wire was in order.
