radiator and heater hoses 200

Maybe just being lazy at the moment but I'm thinking about not doing work if it's not really necessary.

My car is a 92 with 103K+ miles on the clock. I'm going to drain and fill the coolant and was thinking about replacing the radiator hoses and the hose to and from the heat core and reservoir.

How long can these hoses last, should they be replaced?

I was going to change the radiator and reservoir hoses because it is relatively easy then I looked at the heat core hoses, and, not so easy.

Do the heater core hoses last a long time?

looking for recommendations.

Volvo OEM hoses last a long time, far longer than aftermarket brands. That noted, "a long time" is not forever and replacement is cheap insurance against major engine issues. I replace mine every ten years.

I've ordered the Volvo radiator hoses and the hose to the reservoir. As for the hoses off the heater core I will need to keep an eye on them.

Thanks for the help.

Look for hardness which indicates that the rubber has dried out, or softness which can indicate that the rubber has broken down.

Lastly, look for bulges or swelling, particularly near connections - this demonstrates that the reinforcement fabric that gives the hoses strength has failed.

my experience with volvo hoses has been very good.

Thanks I'll give them a good looking over.

I agree with James. OEM Volvo hoses last a very long time. When I sold my 90 244DL at 300k I had only replaced 2 hoses. My 95 855GLT has 250k and I've also replaced two. Even though your car is low mileage definitely give all the hoses a thorough check because of the age. Don't risk a hose blow out and a possible overheated engine/blown head gasket/warped cylinder head.

The only thing I will add is that make sure the replacement parts are OE or of high quality. All that aftermarket stuff will not last 100k.

I'm trying to stick with Volvo parts with all the work I do on it.

Just did the heater hoses on my '91 245,245,000 on the clock. Did the intake manifold gasket as well. One hose and intake gasket were leaking, first time for both.

Hi,

On both cars my heater hoses closet to the trans dipstick lasted till around 230,000 miles. But age/time also plays a factor I think. With the heater hoses you might want to wait until you do your intake manifold gasket and/or breather box cleaning. On one of the cars I used MacKay brand hoses which looked to be of comparable quality to OEM.

Thanks Travis, good to know it will go awhile before needing to be changed.
