Spark plug wire holders? 200

My 85 240 came without any plastic spark plug wire holders for it's B230F. The zip ties that were used are better than nothing, but the jury rigged bundle rubbed silver tracks through the black paint on the valve cover. I much prefer the stock setup.

Do you know where I can get those little plastic wire spacers? No luck on Ebay today. I want old ones, not aftermarket, and have trouble getting to junkyards because of work hours.

3D print new wire separators? Talk about overworking a problem...

Find some in a junkyard or get something similar on eBay.

Me, I run aftermarket 8mm silicon wires and clamp separators.

Spark plug wire holders? At the junk yard, also .... 200

    Hi I-5 Librarian and folks,

What I do, what I've always done on my 240s to secure the spark plug wires between the distributor cap and the spark plugs in images.

The exhaust-side clip and the two individual wire holders fail from heat and such over time. I've installed new on other folks cars, including Volvo autos.

So, I collect these bit from other autos that have these spark plug wire clips. They may not secure to the metal brackets either side of the valve cover. Some may not like the holders resting on the valve cover, abrading away the valve cover finish a little bit.

(Could remove the broken holder piece there, huh.)

There is a dual-ended clip that pivots in-between. One end clips to the copper-nickel brake line at the end of the brake master cylinder. The other end holds the ignition wire. Did not record an image on any of the three auto examples.

    Hope that helps.

    Maggi Seasoning.

Can you provide more pictures of your spark plug wire holder setup?
Did the young lady leaning on the 240 install some spark plug wire holders?

        Hi I-5 Librarian,

You have at your finger tips a whole slew of decent salvage yards. You may have to research which have Volvos or imports or vintages that may have exposed spark plug wires with holders. I've pulled these over the last 30 years from Volvo, VW, Saabs, BMWs, Fords, and you name it.

I'll record more images as you ask. Anything in particular? Elevation view of?

Wot's it like to do well and reside in such a lovely area as North Seattle, Wedgewood, Ravenna, and such. Where much of the creative talent in tech, other industry, arts, music, and new value generation reside?

I would have loved to work at Microsoft from 1994 to the end of Windows 7. Screw Windows 8.x and well worse, crappy Windows 10. Windows 10: The Crappiest.

I was in the wholly evil Spokane from 2007 to 2015 and Vancouver, WA for a year before that.

Innumerable resumes to so many companies for tech writer work from lovely Olympia to Bellingham. Though Seattle the area (Tacoma, King, and Snohomish counties) is now, like the SF Bay Area, wholly cost-prohibitive for me. Unless 120,000$ per annum.

Stay away from Spokane. Don't get suckered into any opportunity or anything. The region in Eastern WA, the Tri-Cities (The Hanford Nuclear Disaster Area leaking isotopes into the Columbia River to keep Portland Weird - Portland intakes water from the Willamette River), N Idaho, and Western Montana is evil, corrupt, and far worse. Massive corruption. Well, so goes the entirety of AmeriKa.

Also, St. Louis, MO, the deplorable midwest hell hole it is, as the midwest is a hell hole, and the utter polar opposite of Seattle, is worthy to avoid. The suburban areas with the near do well and do well houses on tree lined streets all seem to have dogs, and smells like dog waste, even in the few weeks of cooler weather. The summers are awful and truly smell wretched. Smoking tobacco and texting while driving are pastimes in the midwest dung heap.

The two other images are merely hyperlinked from the not so active any more www.catsandvolvos.com.

Give me a few dayze to reply.

Your setup makes it comfortable so one does not have to check too often for loose spark plug wires, Right ?

Spark plug wires may move a little independent of the starting and running engine, yet wire insulation does not contact anything.

I'm unsure what under hood turbulence may do. I've not had a wire failure or short, ever. Yet spark plug wires sets I have, like rotors and caps, are all junk yard pulls. Find some good recently installed wear item stuff.

I've pulled even new plastic insert clips from junkards, and they can fail. Can't tell what may be an OEM or aftermarket, tho.

Working with 3D printed prototypes as CB suggests, unless the resins or material used in 3d printing has improved, would not take the under hood engine heat very long at all.

Volvo used 3 types of wire holders. One is round that holds/ separates the 4 wires at the distributor cap. they also used single wire holders that are held in place by a valve cover nut. And finally a straight wire holder/ separator that just floats above the valve cover. The last one I'm not sure if it attaches anywhere on the valve cover. I can look in the AM at my car.

    Aftermarket? 200

I've bought them in the past at suppliers like fcp groton. They did not seem substandard compared with what original nylon fell apart. Sixty nine cents.

Yes, that spark plug wire separator needs a metal bracket that's held by one of the valve cover nuts, Volvo part number 463858 and is still available for $3.03.

To find your odds and ends, try downloading the parts catalog for your 1985 240 at:

        www.volvotips.com

Having the part numbers is quite helpful and seeing exploded views can also help too.

And with a handle including "Librarian", I figure you should be able to find what you need in there.

Thank you so much Eric for the volvotips.com link.

I did not know this one. I found there the method for installing a rear windshield on a 240.

It is mentioned in there to use a sealing compound between the glass / rubber and rubber / metal lip.

Just wonder what should be used.

The local glass shops use Butyl caulking from a tube which is the same stuff they use to install glue in auto glass.
