hi sages- one of the vehicles in my fleet has a peculiar maintenance need. a black plastic exterior panel about 2 inches wide by 18 inches long came off the drivers side of the body . it fits between the rear door window and side roof window. it had two snap hooks which have broken off and a small screw which holds the bottom to the door skin. the only way i can see to reattach it permanently is to use a thick strong glue to adhere it to the metal part of the door. the question is which glue is up to my application. liquid nails, flex seal, jb weld epoxy, 3m black liquid sealer(used on gm cars),gorilla glue or something else magical. it would have to have strong adhesion and resist heat, sun, rain. any good experience here with such a job. looking for your best advice . thanks tons oldduke

3M 5200 Marine Adhesive. Used it on many molding parts on my 240 when they began falling off.

You can find this adhesive at any West Marine store. It is made for boat parts. This stuff lasts forever!!

I've also used 3M 5200 when reattaching headliners and sunroof wind deflectors. Great product!

Some of those may work fine but I don't have any experience with most of them. My go to adhesive that works well and is very strong is Shoe Goo.

Yep, 2nd-ed on the Electric Products Shoe Goo, yet it may be better, to use the GOOP product. Best if they are UV-resist versions called RV or Marine. You can get the RV version at Walmart for like 3-4$

GOOP RV tube. Packaging may have changed a bit with a big RV on the tube.


GOOP II MAX is also RV resist. I'm unsure how it is better.


GOOP Marine is also RV resist.


I use the RV resist versions on my 240 taillights lenses.


Though I had to drill holes through the bottom of the red lens to drain it of moisterure instrusion. I make it a gold fish bowl?

I also used GOOP to resecure the along the bottom of the front and rear 240 door plastic trim. Cleaned it all, at leasts the pain side. I did not rough up the paint finish. Applied the GOOP like a contact cement. A coat on the trim adhesive side where it was before and at the edge that contact the exterior door surface. Press it againts the door surface. Let it get tacky for a few minutes or more. (Fan helps and the outgassing is tremendous with GOOP.) And apply a new bead and spread it, than reapply. I use clear packing tape to hold it on and give it a few days to cure.

I've used the 3M trim adhesives. They do not last, become brittle, and crumble from UV sunlight and weather exposure. Urethane Gorilla glue may not be UV resist.

Uncle Art is helping the one needing belt size info. Uncle Art can perform laser wheel alignments on his Volvo in his garage!

I have used Shoe go on tail lights as well and not had any problems using it out in the FL sun. I will have to get some goop next time and give it a try. Coming from the same company I suspect they are very similar products.

I'm in the same boat. The boat where we haven't purchased shoe goo or goop and tried it on anything. I wonder if what makes it so well-liked is the same stuff used in 3M all-weather waterproof trim tape? That's what I thought of when you mentioned 2" by 18" and so on...
