Hello!
Bad fuel leak on the garage floor this morning and need the car asap. It seems I have a leak at the top of the fuel tank. I have a 91 station wagon for parts but are the tanks compatible?

My modem crapped out on me and I wish I'd seen your guys posts! I made the mistake of undoing the clip holding the filler tube and tank together and left tube in place. I ended up having to buy a new tank and to get the tank and filler tube lined up in a way that the clip would hold it together sealed was pita, that's where I wished I'd seen your post about getting the tube out and put in on before putting the tank back on. Anyways, after all was put back on the new tank was faulty from manufacture and leaked in the weld so so much for freezing your fingers off. Getting a new one today and it should be easier now and it's gonna be a warm weekend.

I swapped a 91 sedan tank into a 92 wagon, tanks are the same but you will need to use the fill tube from the car with a bad tank.

Have you looked to see if it is the tank for the lines coming out of the sender unit ? My '92 had leaky (rusted out) fuel lines.

I think the leak is above the weld. Gas lines are dry but it's wet all around the weld. I've smelled gas for a few weeks but didn't notice it until I filled it up. On it today!

Should be the same. I put a 91 gas tank in my 81 262c.

I'm stuck. Got all bolts holding the tank but it's still stuck up by the neck. What am I missing?

Did you remove the drip bib from the neck? how about the vent hose? You will also have to deal with the rubber collar between the tank and body inside of the trunk. It is a bit of twisting and rotating but it can be done without having to disconnect or loosening the filler neck. You will also need to disconnect the feed line to fuel pump and maybe another hose that is attached to fuel sending unit.

My sending unit on the 81 had 3 hoses attached to it. Yours may be different but this gives you and idea of what be holding you back.

Besides removing the gas cap you will need to push the grommet through to the inside and will have to loosen or remove the clamp that holds the filler neck to the tank. And don't forget the vent tube... It is a pretty awkward assembly.

Going back in, the neck needs to be loosely attached to the tank and I had the best luck with the filler pipe 'upside down' to fish it all into place and be able to reinstall the tank. You need a new filler tube o-ring too.

pull everything from the gas cap to the tank to be sure. that 91 tank complete will work in a 75, with all the 91 parts included. good luck, chuck.
