Headlights sometimes go out—relay or switch? 200 1989

I've had a few instances lately where my headlights will not work—neither low nor high beams. I looked at my relay (thanks to Art's photos) and saw there is a somewhat melted area around one connection. But when the headlights go out so do the dash lights. If I switch to parking lamps only, the dash lights come back on. Having the dash lights go out together with the headlights makes me think it's the switch and not the relay (despite the melted connection at the relay). Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Joel

Probably the switch. Remove the switch and look at it. Sometimes the plastic housing cracks and makes the contacts not touch. If it is cracked squeeze it together and see if the lights work. If so, it can be fixed with either super glue or melt the crack together with a soldering iron or both.
