FYI. Currently, I am not using my car everyday. It looks a wild & smart animal(s) decided to have a party inside of the belly pan. I park my car on the street and it's in the middle of Brooklyn. What type of animal this could be??? I am curious.

It looks like chicken strips. It was raw when I saw them first. They got cooked like beef jerkey on my way to MD. Also, they were all lined up like an army of robots.

In the 2nd photo closer up, is that a bag or a napkin? was this a wrap that got dragged up there by a cat? or some animal.

a hungry OCD Clinton campaign mascot, a vegan that only ate the wrap and the vegies. Explanin' why the meat is so neatly lined up -OCD.

I think (I am thinking here) that's a liner that they put inside of the meat packaging tray. Maybe we can chew instead of biting.

My guess in NYC it's a rat and a smart one, he probably cooks all his food that way!

hi sages- looks like it could be a shredded muskrat which is a variety of fat rat with a voracious appetite, but they are usually found near swamps. arty b probably has seen them near stinkng creek in md. doubt if they are found in brooklyn.too many feral cats roaming the nooks and crannies of flatbush and near the big airport. they would keep the rat population way down. that volvo belly pan does create a comfortable and attractive haven though . when critters wake up would seem the fan could shred them. occassionally find a sleeping mouse in the engine compartment of my 245. regards oldduke

I don't mind sharing my space (does my space exist?) with a creature.

I am afraid they might chew on my wiring harness that goes under the harmonic balancer.

I am afraid of their disease carrying poop.

I am afraid that they might clog up my air box which happen to me in the past. The air box was filled with empty nut shells. No picture was taken.

So how stinky is this place? Natural or man made? :-)

hi swede b- only one other place stinks as bad as the creek. it is the okeefenokee swamp which is near the ga- fla border on 95. both places have a bad stench in late spring when starts to get warm. uncle moe told me it was caused by rotting compacted vegetation. similar to the everglades in the spring. btw dont like critters in cars at all. rodents are the worst. crawl in and perish in the worst places. moth balls are a good deterrent. as good as boric acid pellets to get rid of cockroaches. neighbors newer ford 150 just had to replace a wiring harness chewed up by critters. they ate the wire insulation and shorted out the ignition. had to take off the intake manifold. led to much cussing. regards oldduke

One regret, I should have drop the pan and take a look before I made a trip to MD. I didn't know it was getting to cook like this.....

I am an OCD person. :-) So I decided to take a chance, parked the car very closer to the same spot. My car was left alone for 3 days. There is no sign of "OMG, where are my chicken strips?".

Between you and Jon, interest in old Volvos by small animals is rising. Jon's post explains mysterious scratches I'd previously attributed to getting a twig wrapped around the driveshaft.

I've had a few encounters too, but not much damage. A big woodpecker would take out mirrors. Something chewed through our tank sender cable. And the warm engine, refuge for a woodchuck.

Chicken strips -- that's amazing. Especially that you didn't have fur or feather in evidence. Maybe from someone's trash.

Maybe small animals want to participate in the sharing economy too. I have seen how a street cat catch and eat a bird. It's a bloody mess. I think you are right, someone threw the entire packet of boneless chicken. There was no blood or feather of any kind.
