Dash bulb failure lamp and High beam lamp 200

Two questions really. This is for my 92 sedan.
The bulb failure lamp comes on in the dash when brakes are applied. I use to have a write-up for my 93 240 on how to wire directly to the bulb sockets but I know longer have it.

I saw a write up for a 90 and was wondering if it is the same for the 92 sedan?

Does anyone have it for a 92. it worked great on my 93 and I like to do it again on this 92.

also, the high beam lamp in the dash is good in bright. Is there a way to dim it down a little?

Years ago I found overdrive and high beam indicator lights too strong at night in my 1982.

I used black felt marker on the light bulbs to reduce the intensity. Two coats and they still emit light but plenty enough for night driving. A little difficult to see the green overdrive light when sunny though.

    My cheap method.

And the advantage is, you can reach up behind and grab the lamps; no need to pull the cluster and disassemble it.

    Dan,

Here is the link for the hardwire:

As for the bright high beams light, I too have the same problem on my 91', however my 90' that I just purchased is quite comfortable, as is my 89'. My friend has an 88' and has the same issue as with my 91', so who knows what changed or why.

I have seen a post where the guys takes the decal from another cluster and cuts it and then places in his cluster so as to limit the amount of light coming through there. I looked like it might be worth a shot.

    Just my thoughts,

    Matt

The blue dye evaporates with heat. Sunbleached. Nothing changed year/year. Depends on the amount of use and sunlight from being parked outdoors.

With this knowledge, believe I will dig into my vast source of cluster parts and see which ones are not as faded and swap them out as this can become rather annoying at night when high beams are in frequent use.

        Thanks Art!

It is annoying, and the wifemobile suffers from this particularly. Of course, I notice it in deer season, and it just doesn't rise to the annoyance level that would have me pulling the cluster from a cold car. So far.

I have some translucent blue tape left over from 80's PC layout work. Maybe that would help.

            Lighting Gels.
Yeh I did work at a TV station so I got small pieces for free, but this is the ticket.
You can get these sheets at well stocked music stores. Gels for your band's stage lights. Or hobby stores have them too

Same issue solved - not Volvo 200

In the late sixties I owned a 1965 Sunbeam Alpine. Having owned other British sports cars I was shocked at the comfort amenities provided. It had a multi-position pedal carriage - a telescoping steering wheel - multi-position seat brackets for tilt and height adjustment. For the turn signal and high beam indicators it had individual chrome bezeled lamp fixtures set into the dash which had flip up and down lenses--consisting of thicker and thinner sections for daytime/night use. What an elegant solution. -- Dave
