Aftermarket 940 Motor Mounts 900 1995

Has anyone had good (or ones to avoid) experiences with aftermarket motor mounts for a 1995 940?

Wish I saw this post earlier...

Swap out the hydraulic mounts for the older solid mounts. Much much better. One of the best things I did to my 94 940 NA. A little lumpy at cold idle with a VX cam, but fine while driving. And solid mounts won't fail and go all squishy like the hydo mounts. OEM hockey pucks on the solid mounts.

A guy over on TurboBricks sells used OEM solid mounts for about $100.

      Dear MrNabisco,

Hope you're well. The issue with the Meyle mounts is durability. When Meyle made items in Germany, that was less of a concern: for Germans, quality control is almost a religion. Some Chinese firms firmly grasp the importance of quality control. But many do not, especially if their managers are pressed "to make it cheap".

With parts wherein rubber is a key component, it is impossible to know - by inspection - what ingredients were used, in what proportions, and how the mix was processed. Those things are critical determinants of durability. Installing motor mounts requires a lot of work.

Volvo seems to have chosen suppliers of high-quality rubber. As I noted in my reply to Amarin, Volvo solid (non-hydraulic) motor mounts are only $35 each at a North American Volvo dealer. Even if that is double the price of another brand's item, I think the "extra" $35 is worth spending, if one can afford it.

      Hope this helps.

      Yours faithfully,

      Spook

Thanks for the post mrnabisco. I did order the solid Meyle mounts and happy to see it was the right choice (solid). I'll find out if Meyle was the right choice in the next few years if the car holds together.

    Thanks! 900 1995

Thanks to Kittysgreyvolvo and Amarin for their responses.
I went for the Meyle motor and transmission mounts, non-hydraulic motor mount even though the car is NA. I have had good luck with Meyle disk rotors in the past.

    Hi,

    For my NA engine:
    1. Best experience - Volvo OE mounts (made by Corteco)
    2. Intermediate - Meyle, Hutchinson mounts
    3. Bad? - Dunno, haven't tried any other than above

    Caveat:
    1. Experience also depends if engine has added aftermarket camshaft. M cam gives smooth idle so lesser quality mounts may still be acceptable. Mine with VX cam has slightly lumpy idle so it fares better with OE.

    2. Cheap mounts may just be solid rubber mounts which look similar to OE but not hydraulic i.e liquid filled. However, turbo engines use solid rubber mounts (IIRC).

    Regards,
    Amarin.

      Dear Amarin,

Hope you're well. You are well-served by memory. VADIS - the superseded dealer parts/service database - shows that the "engine pad" for a turbo-equipped engine is #8250089 (cost is about US$36 at a North American Volvo dealer). For a non-turbo engine, the engine pad is #1378657 (dealer price is about US$130, same basis).

For parts that are hard to access - and I include motor mounts - I'd second your motion that Corteco mounts are the way to go, if someone wants the hydraulic cushion.

      Hope this helps.

      Yours faithfully,

      Spook

    Turbo or normally aspirated 940?

    https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineMechanical.htm

I have Volvo OEM 240 'diesel' (harder / denser mounts) on both 240 sedans. Still fine after around 7=8 years.

Also replaced the M47 II transmission mount on all three with new OEM. Doing fine. I also drive the thing gently and don't hammer it from a stop. Yet will hammer on on-ramps from like 20-30 MPH to 50-70. I have no opportunity to tow anything.

I have the "Professional Parts Sweden" there take then on the solid 240 diesel rubber mounts. They are still solid, yet sag a bit and the engine sags a bit rewardly.

Why, are one or more of your mounts sagging? I always found the (as you sit in the driver seat) smaller air intake mount broken as the engine lifts up on that side when apply more power at drive command and when running at sustained higher (like highway 50-60+ MPH) RPM.

The exhaust side mount fails from heat and from oil soaking with oil changes.

    Hope that helps.
