Correct ECU 900 1992

My daughter just picked up her first car. I have a "to-do" list of minor repairs and deferred maintenance that I plan to take care of. When we bought it, the owner said it had an intermittent issue with stalling but the shop said it was fixed. It didn't steal at all when we test drive it and ran s fairly smooth for a 15 year old car. It had an oil leak so I decided to clean the engine to pin point the leak. Since then, we have noticed it hard to start when the engine is warm but has sat for more than 10 minutes, or will have an idle that is either erratic or idle over 1200 RPM. Here is what I've done.

ECT tested high so replaced it
Cleaned the IAC valve and ohm was a little low (7.5 ohms, book lists 10-15)
Cleaned the AMM
Throttle position sensor clicks

I plan a couple other things like testing O2 sensor, cleaning throttle body, check/replace fuel pressure regulator, maybe replace fuel filter.

My question is, I looked to see what ECU it had just in case and saw it was a 280-000-939. From what I can decipher from other sites, this may not be the right one. This is a turbo model with an EGR. Should I look at replacing it?

    Correct ECU 900 1992

    Dear PapaSeals,

Hope you're well. According to the Volvo pocket data booklet - Cars (700,850,900), 1991-1996 (700/900 - p. 28), the following engine control modules were used in 1992 models:
    ................Volvo # ........Bosch #
    91-92: 3517370-----0 280 000 563
    ----92: 3547783-----0 280 000 939
    92-93: 9135138-----0 280 000 939
    92-95: 3547781-----0 280 000 937.

Are you sure there's an EGR Valve? In the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is there a 1 after the "87" or "88", which denote a turoob-equipped engine. The "1" indicates EGR. If there's a zero (0) then an EGR Valve is not present.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

    Hi PapaSeals,

Here is a list of LH-Jetronic ECUs for RWD Volvo auto.

    http://www.nuceng.ca/bill/volvo/database/ecu.htm

It is not exhaustive in that it does not match the EZK ignition control module for a range of LH-Jetronic ECUs. As you see, the EZK varies by LH-Jetronic range and whether EGR is equipped.

We could all probably update this list easily enough in a single thread with such information.

Also, though not applicable to you, the Bosch PN for the LH-Jetronic version 3.1 AMM / MAF is wrong.

You have a Canadian or more likely a former CA-state resident 940 Turbo as you have EGR. It may matter whether you have the PulseAIR system that passively injects ambient atmosphere into the exhaust manifold as that is more a Canadian environmental regulatory mandate, yet some later U.S. 900 series also had it. Though I'm unsure.

I'm certain others will provide more useful and direct guidance for you here soon.

By best to Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon. Never could get a writer job their for stuff I'm overly qualified for, yet would come in cheap.

The trips with the Oregon Volvo Tuners out to Astoria on highway 26. Some diner, and over the bridge North into WA, or South down the 101. That was some fun.

You do know the OVT, yes?

    Questions?

Hope that helps you and thank you.
