Volvo mirror repair 1213604 120-130

Exterior rear view mirror fell apart sitting in sun. Just popped and dropped, glass intact.

Standard 122/140 mirror #1213604.

Looks like the glass was simply pressed in and held in frame by caulking bead, with coiled spring, 2 1/4" cork disc and mounting swivel stud behind it.

Any thoughts /experience on reassembling, bonding, so it doesn’t pop apart again?

Does hook on spring go in center of swivel stud?

Thanks, Amazon66

    Volvo mirror repair 1213604 120-130

    Thanks,
pita anticipated, thus I asked guidance.

I pulled this one years ago off a junk yard 145, after 20+ years it just fell apart in driveway sitting still.

I'll try to epoxy/clamp/crimp this one back in and also buy a new spare for the next time it explodes. Thanks for the link, good price.

The original mirror glass had a bevelled edge and was held in by the surround of the metal backing being crimped over. Having tried, unsuccessfully, to get one of these mirrors out without breaking it, I would guess that your mirror head had the glass replaced by one that is fractionally undersized, hence the bead of caulking. There was no caulking on the one I made the attempt to repair, I've just had a look at it.

IMO these are a pita to mess with. Inferior metal (like almost all mirrors). $35 here
