PBR Axxis Deluxe Brake Pads--Gone/NLA? 200 1991

I've used Repco/PBR/Axxis pads on various 240s since the early 1980s; now it looks like they're no longer available from my usual sources (FCP, ipd, BAG/GEON).

Are they really gone--and if so, what's a good no-dust replacement for the 2-series cars? We don't drive our cars too hard, so we can get by with OEM braking performance--but want something that's lower noise/dust than the originals.

FWIW, I have Akebono pads on our S80 and they seem good . . . but haven't seen any front pads from that brand to fit the 240 . . .

Thanks in advance!

Made in Australia Contact them here

Try a search through Google shopping.

The Metal Masters were awful. Rusting brake pads?

Yep, iPd and AutoZone no longer carry these. Maybe Rock Auto?

    FCP Euro (closer to you)

My guess, considering the small and shrinking market Volvo 240 represents, PBR / Axxis no longer makes and sells for 240, it appear prima fascia.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I talked to ipd where I first bought Repco [which became PBR/Axxis] pads all those years ago. They said PBR/Axxis brake product line has been bought out by Bosch. The Bosch "Quietcast" pad is supposed to be about the same as the old PBR deluxe. I've had great experience with Akebono on wife.gov's S80, but looks like they don't make a pad for the 240's front caliper. Oh well.

I see that FCP-Euro also carries these Bosch pads--may buy from them as their warranty/satisfaction guarantee policy has been most helpful.

Either way, it will likely be a couple of months before I do the brakes--but I like to plan ahead/have parts on hand for when the mood strikes :)

      Thanks again!

Bosch pads are decent. I'm always impressed when I buy the for our 960 and they include hardware and seals for the slider pins. Haven't tried them on the 240 yet, still have a couple sets of made in India (eeek!) genuine Volvo pads I should try yo use up... Or not.

          Hiya Anderssj and Adirondack Blues,

I'd been using the Blue Box Volvo pads Made in India on two of the three 240s I have. No problems to report at all. They also seem to be less of a dark brake dust dusting to the wheels than the original (???) made in (???) Volvo blue box brake pads. Though with the black 14" steelies, not an issue.

May be awhile before I give some other brand a whirl like the Bosch. Thank you fro the info about the Bosch taking over the PBR / Axxis brake business at iPd and FCP Euro.

Though slightly warped rear rotors on the 1992 240 GL right now gives me reason, and the 1992 is a bit overdue for a new brake fluid flush with the Motive Power Bleeder. The 1991 needs it also. Maybe a new MC for the 1992 with it's ABS.

I feel I'd been better at brake pedal modulation in no-ABS 240s in slickery conditions than the 240 ABS.

          Happy Friday (all day long!)!
