VOLVO 960 alloy rims and tires for a 240? 200

USED SET OF 940 TIRES ON CRAIGSLIST
Would these work on my stock 1985 244? If they fit, what would be a good OBO? Thanks.

Late model 960 and S/V90 wheels are FWD offset. They will not fit on a 240.

The craigslists advert I-5 Librarian provided the link to expired. So, I was not able to check them up, get the model name and specs.

Them wheels looked a little new.

There is a make / break for wheels between 940 / 960 by year that is okay backward and forward.

Be wary, should you use a Volvo FWD/AWD offset wheel, as you need those spacers, and many are made really poorly. Pageda Dan made mention in a post somewheres.

There is a sticky on turbobricks and a few website that provide an exhaustive listing fo Volvo wheel models. You can find them using Bing or Google. These lists may provide spec info, or merely have an image and if lucky, a Volvo part number.

Some 20+ year owld use wheel may need some help, like check for true and fractures and refinish; certainly when corrosion along the bead interface cannot be polished away.

I like the 700/900 15" steelies that are not so wide. Maybe 6" versus the 240 14" steelie 5.5" width. And you can still use the dog dish two piece center hubcaps, so I read about.

      Hope that helps.

940 rims will be a direct bolt on with no problems at all. The bigger wider tires will make a marked improvement in handling in dry conditions.

I know the tire size will work just fine -- but the potential problem -- 940 rims WILL work fine on a 240 - but these rims came from a 960 and it's my understanding that 960 rims use the same offset as the FWD Volvos and I can tell you that the rim and ruined tire given to me by my cousin from her old S80 would not go on a 245 parts car. -- Dave

I do not know if they fit. You have TWO questions, do the wheels (bolt pattern AND offset) fit, and do the TIRES fit? I'll bet you can look up the tire size and radius and see if they are similar to a 240 tire except, I assume, different profile, AND, probably very low demand for the wheels, and little demand for used tires, even if newer Michelins. So really lowball would be my thought.

Thanks guys. I made an appointment at Discount Tire. I decided to go with stock rims and Michelin T+H 195/70/14,a little wider, and a little smaller in diameter. After reading about the Michelin's I hope the ride isn't to harsh.

        Michelin 200

Which model Michelin's? I think Michelin's are a great riding tire but I prefer a firmer ride. The crowd that prefers the living room couch ride might not like them.

IMHO - Michelin's are generally the best all-around tire out there. Michelin's have a good balance of handling, ride and bad weather traction. And they usually outlast any tire of similar type. For example, I had Kumho Solus on both my 240 and 850. Quiet, nice riding tire for the money. Michelin's, by comparison, are a little firmer riding but are superior in traction, handling and overall road worthiness. Cost a lot more but also lasted twice as long as the Kumho's. If you plan on keeping your car for awhile I think they are worth the investment.
