Speedo sensor wiring 200

My sister brought her '89-245 over stating that the speedometer-odometer wasn't working after gas fillup and reset of odometer.

I found wires hanging in the rear. Broken off from plug that goes into sensor. Removed plug, not enough wiring left to determine color. Rewired and guessed at blk and blu wire positions in plug. (50/50 chance of getting it right/wrong). Diagram in Haynes doesn't help. Since rear on stands, started car and put into drive. Speedo worked. Wrapped up.

But when I test drove, the speedo worked but the odo didn't. So flipped wires in plug. Speedo works but odo still doesn't. So did I damage the odo by having wires reversed initially?

Sister needs car so returning as is until car is available.

Absolutely not. Makes no difference which way you connect them back at the sensor.

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Thanks, I was wondering about that.

I guess the odo was coincidence.

Trev29,

Most likely the odometer gear inside the speedometer has broken and needs to replaced.

You've repaired the speedometer with re-wiring, however when your sister reset the odometer, the gear most likely broke at that time.

Simple repair. See here:http://cleanflametrap.com/speedo5/

Let us know how you make out.

Matt
