Dear blindboy,

Hope you're well. A 960 (or S/V90) with a re-built engine suggests timing belt breakage (valves bent), which suggests failure to change at the recommended interval, which further suggests owner neglect or carelessness.

It is possible that the timing belt broke because the water pump seized due to loss of coolant. That too, is more likely than not to have resulted from burst radiator or heater hose, also a sign of neglect.
