1994 940.

Can anybody tell me the torque specifications for the four bolts securing the transmission support crossmember? Thanks.

Dear blindboy,

Hope you're well. At the link provided, I saw no torque specs for the transmission cross-member for 940 or 960s.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Probably too late - but ID bolt diameter and strength (grade) - look up torque spec on internet. Fastener specific, not brand specific.

I've always just made those tight, but I'd bet it's not much more than 35-40 ftlbs.

Dear U.S. Diver,

Hope you're well. In Pocket data booklet - Cars (700,900,S90,V90, 850 S/V/C70) 1991-1998, I find only one torque specification for a transmission cross-member, and that's for the M90 transmission (50Nm = 37 pound/foot). While all sorts of specificatione are provided for other transmissions, none of specifications apply to the transmission cross-member.

I've always tightened cross-member bolts on 940s to "snug" plus 1/8" turn, if possible. A mechanic with a professional football line-backer's strength likely has the raw strength to strip the bolt. There's no need for that sort of force to be applied.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
