New 544 owner- Introduction 444-544

I just bought a 65 Volvo 544 Sport and while it runs and the owner drove it a few years ago, it will need quite a bit of clean up and restoration work. Body straight and mostly rust free, from what I could find. What I am looking for now is the best places to find parts for these cars. I've been surfing the webs and I figured vintage Volvo forum posters would know where to go.

    Hi John,
In case your 544 needs new interior, I make new vinyl seat upholstery which closely match the original style with the "perforated" center sections. I don't do it as a "business" but try to make a few sets per year to help 544 owners have more choices when doing a restoration. I try to keep a set listed on Ebay most of the time. (A red set listed at the moment.)
If you have any questions, you can contact me by email. blangdon@gvtc.com

P.S.---My first new car was a '65, 544. Wish I still had it.

    Hello John and welcome,

Below is a list of suppliers of old Volvo parts.

I have bought and in some cases sold parts to all of them.

I have my own website, www. hiperformanceautoservice.com and I own an independent repair shop and we specialize in rear wheel drive Volvos with an emphasis on the pre-1976 Volvos.

My website is nowhere near complete, so If you can't find something you need, let me know.

FYI, since we actually repair and service these cars, I can also supply you or your mechanic with tips and suggestions in the repair and maintenance of cars like yours.

Thanks for the info. I'll be working on the car myself. My Dad bought one in 1963 and knows his way around them, pretty well. It really looks to be a simple car to work on.

One thing I would like to look into is upgrading to front disc brakes. I have read that the P1800 had them and could be used as a swap. Is that the way to go ?

        Hello John,

Although the front brake drum brakes work okay, I do encourage conversions to front disc brakes for every day drivers and spirited driving.

There are several ways to convert to front discs and you can even put vented front rotors on, but multiple custom made parts need to be sourced for that extreme.

Nordicar makes a kit, but it requires some modifications to install and the kit also includes a brake booster, which I don't think really needs to be used and complicates the installation.

I prefer to use parts from several sources for this conversion to create a kit that can be bolted on without any modifications save the 1 modification to the brake master cylinder which just requires the removal of an internal check valve.

I have an estimate for the needed parts.

If you go to my website, www.hiperformanceautoservice.com and send me a message using our contact us link at the bottom left, I can send you that estimate.
