The control arm does have a ball joint. If you are replacing the control arm-purchase and install a new ball joint. I have replaced the bushings in the control arms and also replaced the whole control arms. My suggestion is to purchase the entire control arm and new ball joints. If you purchase just the bushings, you will need a press. GO WITH NEW CONTROL ARMS AND NEW BALL JOINTS.

Interesting. I stand corrected. Since the ball joints and bushings are available separately through the FCPEuro.com website and there is no mention of the ball joints being part of the control arm I wrongly assumed they are separate. It is confusing!

I totally agree with replacing both the control arm and ball joint together. That is standard operating procedure on 850’s too.

No, it needs a bushing like a 240, 740 and 940. If the bushing is bad you should be able to replace just the bushing and not the whole control arm. Ball joint is a separate part.

However, on my former 850 and other FWD Volvos, the ball joint is indeed incorporated into the control arm.
