Injectors: Do yourself a favor 200

Installed remanufactured Bosch 4-hole injectors this morning. Purchased from "Osidetiger" on eBay.
Butter-smooth idle and improved throttle response. Had to turn down the idle. ('84 242 2.0 LH)

These are the 19lb "yellow tops". You can buy used ones but these are ultrasonically cleaned and have new filters and seals. Look and perform as new.

I have a habit of sometimes keeping old parts, O2 sensors, T-stats etc. but I tossed the old injectors right away. Don't look back.

How about a regular dose of injector cleaner? - I add a bottle of Techron when I embark on a long trip with a full tank.

When I first got our used '88 745 GLE, I asked about injector cleaner - I was told that I did not need it.

Later when the dealership changed hands, my "90 744 TI ran a bit rough - I was told to try injector cleaner.

I had a friend who sold cars for the original dealer and I asked him about the change in answers.

He told me that the original dealer has special excellence status with Volvo and got a $1000 bonus at the end of the year for every new car they sold. they were selling 1400 cars a year - 1.4 million is a good chunk of money.

They could afford to spend up to $700 on a customer to keep them happy.

They put a dose of injector cleaner in every car they serviced!

The new dealer lost that status and two years my friend told me that Volvo helped the old dealer to open up a new shop a 1/2 mile away and put new dealer out of business!

BTW - I put a small squirt of injector cleaner In my small engines - If I squirt a bit into my snowblower, it smooths out immediately.

Thanks. What's the part number?

What's their flow rate?

My 1988 uses the same fuel injectors as your 1984 N/A. However, my OEM Bosch are black tops. Any idea why yours are yellow?

Here's the link to the eBay listing.

There are several different colors. I don't know what these were in originally but they are a known upgrade for the 240. My car had single pintle "black-tops" as well. These are genuine Bosch.

Thanks.

According to the eBay listing, they're not compatible with my 1988. Curiously, I've seen 1989-1993 LH 2.4 are yellow top/Bosch.

They are compatible with your car. Read the extended details. It shows them for all 240 LH 2.3 engines through 93. You could check with the seller.

This is how companies like this list things for people searching by application. There may be another ad on their products page for the later models.

I recently had a '90 245 with yellow top injectors but I didn't pull them to see if they were the same. The guy who bought the car was familiar with this upgrade and thought they were not the same as these with 4 ports. I can't confirm that one way or the other.

For stock, non-turbo engines I think these are a great upgrade. I went to great lengths to sort out this car including a new engine harness. A rough idle kept it from being fully enjoyable. These injectors are the refinement I was looking for.

Fuel economy changed? Better or lower?

So, at essence, these four hole tip yellow top injector have a higher flow rate than the stock single hole pintle-ended injectors on my 1990-1992 240s?

Have you tested the emissions for CO, CO2, and NOx? Any change?

Thank you.

It will be some time before I can report on any change in fuel economy. (not that I check that much anyway) We had some snow this morning and more coming this weekend. This is a hanger queen. Won't be driving it until the roads are clear again. If we get a mid-winter rain that washes away the salt and sand I will take it out.

Can't imagine the emissions being worse. The old semi-clogged injectors had to have been running dirty.
New York doesn't require emissions on cars over 25 years old.

I don't know if the flow rate is different but claimed to have better atomization of fuel. These are termed 19lb but the seller listed them as 21lb. (at 43.5 psi)
They are the same metal bodies as the single pintle. Not the later all-color ones. When you get them you'd swear they were new. Jewel-like in heat sealed wrapping.

Thanks.

I'm wondering if an ultrasonic cleaning, which my school might have in its auto shop, would be a good compromise in the interim? I remove the injectors from my 1988 240 DL N/A that has about 300k miles and pressurized carburetor cleaner to spray through the injectors to get a nice spray pattern. I then changed the o-rings. Idle is better, but not quite smooth.

Also, I can't find the link, but the 240s had three series of fuel injectors, all having different flows, from 16 to 19 to 20 lbs/hr (168-214 cc/min).

i used to have access to an ultrasonic cleaner. if you do, then do it. if you can, watch them getting cleaned. worth it, none the less. good luck, chuck.
