Question - Installing new head lamp on Volvo 240 200

I just received new genuine head lamp assembly. It contains front portion (lens and bulbs, etc.) and back plastic plate. For the right side lamp, the back plate contains three long adjustment screws (#9 in the diagram for example). The end of this screw is a round ball. This screw is clipped into the plastic housing(hole) area and by a clip on the plastic, which is the part of the front portion. On the diagram, the clip is #11.

Here is the picture.

My question is: should I remove the clip first and then push in the adjustment screw and then reinstall the clip? To do so, I think I need to force the clip back in with a meticulous picking tool and with some force. (If so, what tool do you suggest? The area is very tight.)

Or can I just push the back plate to the front part and simply have the adjustment screws into the holes and the clips will be automatically clicked in? (It does not appear to be. I am afraid to push harder.)

Thanks.

Hi Sparro,

I always lean on them and they click in. You'd have a heck of a time getting them closed after the adjuster is in.

I put a little silicon grease on the ball, and make sure the clip is centered on the stud.

The force on the spring is down and out where there's plenty of meat when installing so I don't think there's much risk of breaking. If you ever have to take them out, either unclip or lever up on the side away from the cut. The little lip above the cut on the stud can break quite easily.

Peter

Thanks again. A half drop of WD40 worked magically. (Used it because I could not find silicon grease.)
