Cannot Undo Hose from AC Compressor to Drier S90-V90 1998

Hi!

I cannot for the life of me get this connection undone! It’s the connection from the rubber hose coming from the compressor to the drier can. I replaced the orifice tube thing and I thought I’d do the drier. Well, dang it. It won’t budge!

Do y’all have any tips to get that connection undone? Would the drier need to be replaced? How would I know if that’s bad? Seems fine I guess.

If y’all must know: I noticed the system wasn’t taking on any more 134, but the amount was still low. Compressor cycles on and off for five seconds each. The tube with the orifice valve is ice cold when the system is on. The hose which I cannot loosen is ambient temp.

Any thoughts on that?

Penetrant, just a touch of heat (rubber hoses after all), more leverage (including someone else holding one of the wrenches) -- the usual suspects.

If you open the system to atmosphere - the drier should be replaced. And you shouldn't remove the caps from the new drier until you're ready to hook everything up, pull a vacuum and recharge.

"I replaced the orifice tube thing..." -- did that require opening the system and allowing the refrigerant to escape? If so, you pulled a vacuum before you tried to charge?

Yeah I had the system evacuated before I started. There was a satisfying swoosh when I broke seal on the dryer.

        Confused. My usual state.

So you had the system evacuated of 134 (or whatever was in it). Then opened the system to replace the orifice valve. Then pulled a vacuum and put some 134 back in? And now you've evacuated it of 134 again in advance of trying to remove the drier?

No, the system was vacuumed of all 134 before I began work on both the orifice tube and the drier.

Anyway, I got it undone with good old brute force. Buttoned it all back up with the new stuff, had it charged, and it works like a charm!
