Wanted: Green Manual for `95-`98 960. The electrical manual 900

I`ve been looking for a while now. Posting on all the different Volvo sites. I've suddenly had some different electrical issues pop up. need for my `96 960. 95 - 98 are hopefully the same, at least close enough. I`ve got some `92-`94 Green manuals I`d trade out for what I need.

Where do I need to look to purchase new?

Thanks Dave

Green Electrical Manuals for 940s and 960s 900

I absolutely get your desire for the Volvo green wiring diagram manual and having a printed copy. I wouldn't be without them and it's the first thing I go looking for whenever I get a new car.

The current site for obtaining genuine Volvo service manuals is here at
www.volvotechinfo.com
Look for manuals using the pull down boxes. It appears that printed copies of many of the 940 and 960 service manuals are no longer available for purchase, especially the more popular ones like the wiring diagram manual.

You'll have to find a used one for sale. They pop up occasionally on eBay and Amazon. A quick search didn't turn up anything for sale at the moment.

To aid you in searches, the manual you're looking for is called the
Volvo Service Manual Section 3(39) Wiring Diagrams 960 1996
The publication number is TP3913202 (USA/CDN), which superseded TP3913201. The virtually identical English manual from Volvo Sweden says LHD 960 1996 on the cover and is TP3913032 (UK), which superseded TP3913031. Any of those publications should do if you can find one for sale. There will be minor differences in manuals for earlier and later years depending on how much changed in your model. In general, the wiring harnesses and wire colours were kept fairly consistent from year to year unless systems significantly changed.

You can also find digital copies of many green manuals on line, which is a very good option for you. These are technically bootleg and Volvo used to occasionally try shutting down these sites, so if you find a manual it's best to download it, not just bookmark it. You'll often find these manuals in foreign domains as there of course Volvo fanciers all over the world. You may also find things hidden on foreign domains beyond the reach of Volvo's lawyers, like .RU. Although these may be less secured domains that may attract unsavoury enterprises and as unsecured relays by spammers, I've never had a problem with obviously non-commercial sites hosting such reference material. To be safe, make sure you're using a modern protective browser like Chrome along with trusted anti-virus and firewall protection. If you're worried about being tracked, use private browsing and a VPN. Don't click on anything untoward, especially if it's not in English. Google translate can be very useful for such foreign sites. I've never had a problem and occasionally found some interesting car hobbyist sites.

You're in luck. I found a scanned copy of TP3913202 for you residing on a directoried FTP-style site. I was going to imbed the http address here, but in the interests of protecting Jarrod and the brickboard from Volvo's lawyers we'll let Google take the blame. Do a Google search for "Index of /auto/Volvo/GreenBooks/WiringDiagrams" Go to the web page with the http: address in the .RU domain. It will bring up a file directory -if not, get out. There you'll find the 198 page TP3913202 manual near the bottom as a single 46MB PDF file. The same manual is available as individual PDF pages if you go into the 960-96 subdirectory. People can note that there are many other 940 and 960 manuals and literature there in various subdirectories and parent directories.

Now if you want to take that a step further, here's what I do and it's worth all the effort. I put the PDF file on my trusty old iPad so I can take it out and prop it up on the dash, under the hood or wherever. It saves packing out my sacred green manaul, getting the pages dirty and torn or blown in the wind, plus I'm able to zoom in on the details, even work in the dark. My iPad is always with me when I travel so I'm always prepared. If I'm going to be doing a lot of poking around, I'll tuck in a printed page with the table of contents and page numbers. Working with a single large PDF file can be a bit of a nuisance, so I've actually taken it a bit further and broken the manual up into a number of smaller and more manageable sections. I download the individual pages and using a free PDF utility I re-combine them into a number of smaller and more user friendly PDF files, like maybe a dozen files. There are also utilities that allow you to break pages out of the large PDF file. I group them by sections and do separate files for the odd and even pages so I can have wiring diagrams open in one PDF tab and the corresponding component pictures open on another tab. I then transfer them to my iPad. There are some good free PDF viewing apps for tablets.

Green Electrical Manuals for 940s and 960s 900

Thanks Dave for the detailed response. Good info there.
Yesterday I ordered a new Green manual (TP3913202) through Volvo info. Was glad to see it still available. I do like having a hard copy in my hand while troubleshooting. Go right to the page without the use of electrons.
The absolute best electrical manuals are the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) used on BMW's. Each page starts with the fuse and/or relays at the top and works through the circuit with the ground at the bottom. I have no problem following schematics, but the layout on the ETM is excellent.

Thanks again for the reply, Dave

Wanted: Green Manual for `95-`98 960. The electrical manual 900

Dear dm960,

Hope you're well. Volvo hard-copy manuals - the few still in-print - should be available at: http://www.volvotechinfo.com/ .

I presume you seek a wiring diagram for a 1995-97 960 (re-badged as the S/V 90, produced in 1997-98).

If so, see: https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/34602137/volvo-960-1995-wiring-diagrams .

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Wanted: Green Manual for `95-`98 960. The electrical manual 900

Thanks Spook, I will look into that. I'm old school and prefer having a printed version especially when it comes to schematics. I've got a Green manual I ordered over 20 years ago when I had both a `92 & `94 960. I just don't remember how I ordered it and a couple more.

Wanted: Green Manual for `95-`98 960. The electrical manual 900

Dear dm960,

Hope you're well. Even if you remembered, the volvotechinfo site has been re-designed. It used to be easy to find things. No more. But I'm pretty sure there's not much to find anent Green Books for 900 series cars.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Thanks again Spook for your reply. You've been helping many in all my years here. Even on a model you don't have. So I thank you.

I did find that Volvo tech did show the '96 960 Green manual available and ordered one yesterday. Here's hoping I don't get a message from them indicating that it is indeed NLA. Total cost $53 and it's worth it to me just to have this important info in hand.
