1993 940 T intermittent stalling when hot

Hello,
My problem child 940T stalls on start-up when it's at normal temp on hot days SOMETIMES. The hardest problems with anything are the ones that don't lock in, and only happen intermittently. Like when the battleaxe is driving the car. I have driven the car all summer as it is the only one in my fleet of old volvo's that has AC. It has not stalled on me once in the last three weeks on start-up but, as soon as she gets in the car for the first time in weeks, it stalls on her.

Of course, it is my fault when anything isn't working right (yes, she is one of those) and I am catching major crap because it stalled on her 4 consecutive
times today. I can just use the brake and throttle to get it going when this happens but, she has trouble doing that. I had a similar problem when the pop-off valve had a hole in it but it would stall everytime on start-up but this is different because it is only doing it occasionally, and only when the engine is hot and only on start-up Any help is appreciated.

If you can keep it running by feathering the throttle then maybe it’s due for a throttle body and idle valve cleaning.

Chris,
Thanks very much for the response. Every time I fix one problem on this car, something else breaks. Been this way for 15 years.

Anyway, Early on I cleaned the throttle body, and Idle control motor.

I knew that I wouldn't get many responses to this problem, because there are 100 different things that it could be. If it ain't broke, you can't fix it! If it would only lock in and stall every time!

Yesterday I also changed the fuel inj. relay with a known good one and changed the AMM with a known good one, both off a good running 240. No change.

Again, it is only when hot (outside temp, and normal running temp). First start in the morning, it starts and idles. I drove it for 3 weeks and it didn't do it at all. But it NEVER does it when cold, and low outside temp.

WhenI had a hole in the blow-off valve, it would stall every time. I had to constantly feather the throttle and brake to drive it. It would stall on start-up, and every other start-up, and would not idle and if I wasn't careful, it would stall in traffic. Fun.

Also, I have checked the hot start problems part of the FAQ and read old hot start problem post for hours and hours. Also, there are no codes or check engine light.

I will jumper the RSR and see if the problem persist's. If that doesn't do it, I will swap the power stage module, and it's heat sync paste. If that doesn't do it, theres a tall bridge near here.....

I had similar symptoms with a '92 245. In my case it was the power stage.
