fixed speedo 940 thanks 900 1993

1993 Volvo 940 2.0L manual turbo estate

This is a big thank you to all those who contribute to the excellent FAQ

had intermittent fault with speedo and then it just stopped working. My son who's handy with a soldering iron and most things electronic persuaded me to let him have a look at the cluster which we've had out so many times fixing the fuel gauge (dry joints which eventually come back after fixing) that the actual clips holding the cluster housing in have stress broken!
Anyway I let him take the cluster apart and the yasaki speedo out and the circuit board on the back of it (right opposite the illumination lamp in the housing) was quite corroded - enough to break the tracks in several places. He sorted it with some jumper wires and remade a few joints and while he was at it fixed the fuel gauge - again.

All thanks to that excellent FAQ

I have a 94 940 that has a fuel gauge has just recently decided to work intermittently. Tapping on the area of the fuel gauge usually corrects it for a while.

Are the joints you refer to as "dry" on the gauge itself or on the big circuit board of the cluster?
