i know the connector is quite different between the 2 but both are 2 pins.

is this the only difference?

i am asking if i wire a bosch iac in place of a hard to locate regina iac will the bosch perform the same function in the same way without triggering problems in drive-ability?

esoteric i know but i thought i would ask before getting creative with the wiring

I’m not at all an expert on the electronics associated with the IAC but my understanding is that they work on a different principle and can’t be interchanged.

Right, they perform the same function throttling bypass air flow according to pulse-width modulation (duty cycle), but using a different method. The Bosch valve rotates a spring-loaded weighted window; the VDO unit uses a solenoid to position a spring-loaded linear weighted plunger valve stem.

They're probably close equivalent in function when new, but my observation suggests the linear valve wears faster. The link Spook posted includes a report on TB where someone successfully used a Bosch valve in a Regina-fueled car. Makes sense, but I can't corroborate, or assure you the duty-cycle vs air throttling follows the same curve. The VDO valves I found at the junkyard were already toast.

Personally, I'd test this in my own Regina car if I had one, but would refuse to make the substitution in a hypothetical customer's car. Visions of stalling on the railroad tracks...

have gotten a bosch pigtail for the bosch iac and will use a couple of suitable spade clips

i will report back in several days time with my findings.
