temp gauge resolved 700 1988

Update to the gremlin hunt

Took all the suggestions given here (thank you all)
I cleaned every ground point and the headlight sockets
inspected ever bit of wire for cracks wrapped any one that looked a bit funky
then replaced the voltage regulator on the alt
no more strobing headlights and gauges not going dead

Thank you all who put me on the right path to correcting this issue

A bad ground in the left front fender can cause the car to stall when you turn on the high beams - its in the FAQ!

Clean all grounds as was mentioned - If youj have anti-lock, there is one at the bottom of its base.

Clean all your grounds at the 4 corners then all grounds under both sides of the dash.
