Stalling, engine surge 700 1987

Having problems with my 1987 760 turbo wagon. Help please ! Cant figure this out ? Problem started two weeks ago and has gotten worse, especially as it has gotten colder. Initially the car would stall for no reason once or twice after start up, but seemed to stop stalling and run fine as the engine warmed up. It ran and idled fine until it stalled, it would almost seem to miss and then die. Today it is cold out and everything has gotten worse. It now seems to miss at hwy speed. Tach drops, sometimes it dies, but always restarts. At a light, sometimes the idle will surge for no reason and the the engine will stumble, barely running ? The car is well maintained, many new parts. Recent tune up, fairly new dist and coil, new wiring harness, throttle body cleaned, no vac leaks or tears in turbo hoses, good, steady fuel pressure, even the injectors are fairly new. Any help would be appreciated, I'm stumped ?

My money is always on the solder joints in the main ECU/Fuel pump relay. Have you ever pulled it out and inspected or reflowed the solder joints?

The solder and steel(?) pins and rivets that goes through it expand at different rates. Eventually, the connection becomes flakey on rare occasions but good enough most times. It's a recipe for ghosts in the machine. The transition from good connection to no connection takes longer than anyone could keep the car running, so it will never completely fail. To bypass you can stick a pair of 14ga wires with spade terminals into the appropriate terminals in the relay panel behind the ashtray, or you can simply reflow and maybe add a little new solder. Reflowing is easier. I use a jewelers loupe to check connections for fun, but I go around and reflow *all* of them, even if I don't see obvious issues.

    Good luck!

OK, will check AMM and IAC. What is the best way to test the AMM ? I may have a spare, but have to check. Will report back.
