Long term storage of used brake calipers 200

I got hold of a set of front calipers ABS type for my 1991.

I may not use them before 5, may be 8 years, who knows.

I pushed the pistons back in so they are not exposed to ambiant air humidity which might result in surface oxydation and rust. I used anti seize grease on the bleeder studs and sealed the brake lines after making sure the caliper is full of fluid.

What do you think of this storage method ?

Any suggestion ?

Thanks in advance

Hi

You might want to consider filling or working some of this up into the calipers before “moth balling!”

Hi Roland,

I think you'll be fine as well.

I believe the only way moisture gets into brake systems is from the air vent on the master cylinder.

I think your plan is a good one.

After you do all that other Prep stuff, get some dessicant(you know that stuff that ships with anything electronic that you may buy) then VACCUM BAG them.

Take them apart and silicon grease everything.

Disassemble them, clean them, throw away the rubber parts. Then oil all the surfaces and store in a ziplock bag in a climate controlled environment.

Don't know that I would put brake fluid in them, since it absorbs moisture. That said, if you are looking at long term storage, coat any areas of concern with a silicon grease, get a paper bag with some charcoal, place the bag and the calipers in a sealed plastic bag. The charcoal will absorb moisture and keep it away from the calipers.

How about removing the boots and bleeders and soaking the calipers in a pale of cheap brake fluid? Or substitute the pale for a cut open plastic milk jug?
