The Volvo 740/760 Story

I hadn't seen this before now. If it is "old news" I apologize.

The Volvo 740/760 Story

Randy,

Thanks for sharing. Probably the most informative video I've seen on the 700 history.

If it is old I have not come across it in my 23 years of owning a brick.

And The Volvo 240/260 Story

Thanks for posting that Randy! Many of us won't have seen that. Makes you realize how lucky we are to have these amazing old beasts and how close Volvo came to going under in the process of developing the 700 series.

The Volvo 740/760 Story should be mandatory viewing for all 700/900 owners wanting to call themselves true brickheads.

And for 140/240 brickheads, be sure to check out even more on earlier aspects of the Volvo story in the companion video The Volvo 240 Story

"Big Car" Andy has made a number of excellent car history videos. It appears it's only within this past year that he has made them ad and subscription free on YouTube. You can check them out here on his Big Car Youtube channel. Well worth wasting a bit of time.

Thanks to you, Dave, I hadn't seen that one either.

He does a good job in making a presentation- YouTube needs more people like him.

And The Volvo 240/260 Story

Hi Messrs. Starkie and Stevens!

"The car division was spun into a separate company."

Include the Volvo 164 and the mighty B30 engine as an early brick?

Volvo 164 advertising

Best with M410 gearbox. Most with BW35, so maintain band adjustment occasionally and use quality fluid.

Redblock OHV toppity, toppity, toppity, toppity, toppity!!!

Home built 165 Estate!

Same for 142 with M410! As stock as stock can be from the factory to get to stage 0 tune! Be nice to gain some efficacy in fuel economy and power. Easier to do with B20, yet B30 is more about torque and is smooooooooth.

Very much want a 740 / 940 normally aspirated manual gearbox. Fine with Bendix Rex / Regina. Yet want four-piston brake calipers unless the single piston sliding caliper does okay.

I dunno about 740 / 940 IRS when the seals, bearing boots, and mostly, the bushings, all begin to go. The hipsters drive these to the ground and then ask, "OMG, why," while the drifters laff whether IRS or solid live rear axle goes with an "OMG, destroyed, next RWD and 740 behind a Turbo+ (adds Turbo to an NA) engine."

I'd go with urethane bushings on an IRS service. Maybe uprated springs yet by all means maintain ride height and do away with Nivomat if one can.

The Volvo 240 Story

How is NewMexico240 and his 780 IRS?

Silver and Gold may taste no better than paid for with daily job earnings.
