Pssssst...Anyone need a beater wagon? 200 1993

Hi RWDers,

Trying to save this strong-running old gal from the scrapper and don't feel like dealing with CL under the current circumstances. Please see the classifieds for more detail and photos. I hope this doesn't violate etiquette, but I'm thinking this might catch a pair of eyes that don't browse the ads, and I don't stand to make any money on the deal. For free, think of it as some good parts with their own transportation (Just please don't tell me if you chop her up)! I could even be persuaded to deliver w/in a reasonable radius of PDX.

Cheers,
joe b

    Hi BBers!

Just wanted to close out this thread with the happy report that the old wagon found a great home with a local BB'er and will stay in the RWD family. I left her parked next to two new friends, a 940 wagon and 240 sedan, and I'm sure the 3 of them will have plenty to talk about.

Thanks to the Brickboard who helped me keep her running! I started with a 77 242, and something tells me I have at least one more Volvo chapter in my future. I still keep an eye out for that 79 242gt of my teenage dreams...

    All the best,

That's a great happy ending. By the way, I saw you did your glamour shots across from Rigorberto's. That place is fantastic and conveniently located close to Harbor Freight and Grocery Outlet.

    Hi Joe,

    Scott up in Seattle here.

My friend Coleen is looking for a beater 240, she’s low on $ and in need of a car.
Can you tell me a little about the old 93 you have? (manual-automatic?, runs?, what it needs?)

    Thanks,
    Scott

If for free, more reason to post on craigslist! For free.

Yet if you have a facebook account, post to these fb group pages local to you, like the Portland craigslist ...

    Oregon Volvo Tuners
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/22505205325/

Volvo classifieds for the Pacific Northwest

The protests / riots in Portland are localized to the city proper west of the Willamette river. Not a wide-ranging event.

Thanks for the leads! Unfortunately don’t have a fb account but will see if I can get a message through to a local group. Would love for her to find another Volvo home! And agreed the protests are no issue here. The virus on the other hand has me not wishing to navigate any more social interactions than necessary. My experience with cheap goods on CL is a lot of tire kickers.

I can use my facebook account, yet a$$-dump facebook prevents me from posting links to the brickboard.com domain starting again in the last two weeks.

A 1993 with Auto? Your 240 will be much coveted as free.

Free is free. Do you mean you want someone to care for your free 240 Wagon and at least mechanically restore it? I'd expect, as I read, a free 240 wagon is one that will be destroyed somehow. Maybe you'll find a buyer that will invest in engine control to pass OR-state or WA-state emissions or wherever they they take formerly your 240 wagon you give to them freely.

This SARS-CoV-2 is much more infectious yet got out from the same origination (mainland China) and conditions (Bill Clinton's) globalism (is good for you) as the SARS-CoV-1 in 2002-2004. Yet that was contained.

Wear a mask (not all masks are the same), remain distanced, and upwind, of the suitor seeking to take your free 240 wagon. Limit one visit perhaps every two days. The SARS-CoV-2 viron is sealed in a lipid (fat) exterior. The viron will inactivate in 12-36 hours for the next suitor to take it away.

Comprehensive images and a listing of issues, including what it will take to pass emissions and make it safe to drive, in a craigslist post or a facebook post, can help to better inform interested individuals.

You also have the option to merely sell it to a junkyard for maybe $300. Another place to contact is:

        R & R Auto LLC
2376 NW St Helens Rd, Portland, OR 97210
        (971) 229-1070

On facebookspacetoobtube, they title themselves as "Red Block Performance"
        https://www.facebook.com/RBPportland/

R & R Auto LLC has a YouTube channel named "Shifting Lanes":
        https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCifhwi7Eb4vnf12ox9Bq1yQ

They build primarily 240s to resell as daily drivers and for track use featuring economical methods for builds. They source parts primarily from iPd.

There may be other vintage Volvo shops willing to relieve you of your free 240 Wagon. If it rolls, let a Volvo specialty shop like R & R Auto LLC have at it. R & R Auto LLC is well intentioned and does best for the customer.

When I got to Portland OR in 1989 everywhere was a RWD Volvo. I was most fancied by the numerous 164 / 140s and older there. Sort of like Marin County in CA in 1987. Yet the acquaintances I made in the Bay Area had me repairing their Volkswagens and other makes to pass CA-smog. Working on another's auto while instructing them on what the problem was, the system theory, and why the repair.

Helped with stand up instructional delivery at university. I used to stammer and stutter badly.

        Questions?

        Hope that halps yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I still have one and nobody wants it.

Maybe if I gave it away like you are.

    Let us know what happens.

The only thing worse than dealing with CL under current circumstances, may be dealing with Portland.....

          Good luck!

Whoever is lucky enough to take advantage of this generous offer is really getting a score. If I had room I'd be on it. Don't believe the election-year media hysteria about Portland. Yes, there are protests, but they were relatively localized to begin with and the departure of the feds seems to have calmed things down quite a bit. The city is extraordinarily quiet right now during corona time. I live about a half hour away from downtown and was able to take care of some errands in record time Friday at rush hour because the traffic is so light. That's in stark contrast to the last few years, when that same trip could have taken an extra hour or more because of traffic.
