Hello all , I'm sure this topic may been covered before , lately I have come across a manufacturer that sells a head gasket completely made of cooper for my 89' 740 turbo engine , I just blew out the victor reinz one I installed 7 years ago in the usual place between 2 and 3 cylinders . Anyone have any experience with the all copper head gaskets and are they more durable ? The spec is 98mm bore with .042" thickness .

    unless it's hopped up and the boost is through the roof, get an oe or elring head gasket.

      Thanks, boost is at 10-11 psi with Dawes Device

        Check your cyliderhead for straightness. Could be the reason it blew out.'Use new head bolts

          So True, new bolts and head rebuild and re-surface last tear down 10 years ago , may go to all copper head gasket , just checking if anyone has experience with these all gaskets and their durability factor ?

            Three times I have used MLS (multi layer steel) head gaskets made by Cometic. They need a perfect surface on the head and block to seal. I had leak problems with one of the Cometic head gaskets. I recommend using the composite head gaskets. They will tolerate some imperfections in the head and block. Yes, they do wear out, as the aluminum head and cast iron block have different thermal coefficients of expansion (they move slightly relative to each other with temperature changes). I had to change the original head gasket on my 944T at about 340,xxx miles. If the composite head gasket lasts even half that, I'll be content.
