164 carburetor- Strom

The rear carburetor of my 1971 164 spews fuel. The car hasn't been driven for about a year and a half. I want to start driving it again. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Of122 (old fart with a 122).

Where is the fuel coming from?

A stuck float valve or a faulty float bowl seal or gasket are common problems.

The fuel comes from an opening above and left of the carburetor throat. One drawing calls it “float chamber seat”. The other calls it “float chamber vent (alternative)”. Both are from Haynes manuals-the first for 164, the second a carb manual for Weber, Stromberg and SU, respectively.

Hello,

If fuel is coming out of the float bowl vent, then there is probably something wrong with the float or float valve.

You will need to remove the float bowl to check it out.

I’ll have to check what diagrams say. It’s above and left of the carb throat. I’ll check drawings. Thanks for helping. I’ll probably need more.
