Window seal 1800

I am seeking the rubber seal for the long rear side window on my ES wagon. They are no longer manufactured. I have tried most of my sources, from Don Thibault to VP Autoparts. If anyone has one in new condition, I would be willing to purchase it.

What does the cross section of this seal look like? I'm asking for a picture or drawing.

Hello,

If you are willing to invest some money, you can have the seals reproduced yourself and then hopefully sell enough to cover your costs by selling some to other 1800ES owners. But if you do take on this project, don't be surprised if it takes a few years to make your money back.

FYI, about 20 years ago, we looked into reproducing a seal for a customer's 1961 Volvo P210 that had rare optional roll down windows for the rear passengers, but the cost was too high due to the complexity of the seal as it required multiple molds.

The seal you need is actually quite simple to reproduce as it is just rubber pushed through a single mold like Play-Doh, the process is called extrusion. And to make the seal, you just need to cut the correct length of the bulk molded rubber and glue or bond the ends together.

You will have to get an extrusion mold by providing a sample of the old rubber and back then, 1 of the simple molds we needed to make was going to cost about $500.00.

I found the machine shop that was going to make the molds by 1st contacting a company that had the machines to make extruded rubber seals and they sent me to the machine shop that made their molds.

Try Steele Rubber.

They make thousands of seals for older and antique cars.

They should be able to come up with something.

Thank you for tip.

Sadly, Steele Rubber focuses mostly on American cars. They do not manufacture seals for Volvo.

I'm hoping someone out there has an OEM part stashed away on a shelf. If so, I'll gladly take it off your hands.

Volvo uses many parts from America - brake parts are a good example.

Talk to Steele Rubber - send them a picture for them to match up.

These seals, because they have been NLA for a long time, are always on the list when someone is breaking an ES and asks what shall I keep. If people have taken that advice there may be a set out there somewhere. Condition is down to luck.
