Any Good 240 Mechanics in Central Jersey? 200 1988

Hey everyone,

The place I used to take my 240 to (when it needed it which wasn’t often) is now closed, so I took it to the place I bring my newer Hyundai’s for a timing belt. They probably never did it before. Of course they figured it out, and charged me over $600! I used to pay $150. To top it off, they gave it back with only a single alternator belt, so I had to bring it back. I have a feeling if I bring it in for anything else, I’ll be paying for the extra hour or two it takes them to figure out something else they’ve never done before.

Does anyone know of a good 240 mechanic in Somerset County, or maybe Mercer? Ten years ago there were 240’s all over the place, but not so much anymore.

Thanks

    Try Milltown Liberty - 732-246-2250.
Ask for Tom, who has worked on my cars for years.

The Brickboard SHOPS page lists eight repair shop in NJ-state. Info may be out of date:

    https://www.brickboard.com/SHOPS/?cat_id=&state=NJ

You can contact the Volvo Club of North America. The chapters in your region may offer insight:

    https://vcoa.org/index.php/club-overview/chapters/chapter-map

    The Volvo Mechanics Site:
    https://www.volvomechanics.com/

Though check social media for opinions, ask the shop the houlry rate and whether they service vintage Volvo models.

The Car Talk site lists shops posted by radio show listeners:
    https://www.cartalk.com/mechanics-files

Try Google, Bing, or other online map service and search for Volvo shops. On Google Maps, you have users write reviews for businesses.

    Hope that helps.

With a small salt grain check the BBB website for info on the shop.

Rather than codemn the mechanics that did your Hyundai straight away, look at the ease at which the TB can be reached in the 240. Is it that easy in the Hyundai, or do they need to disassemble a lot more to be able to replace it?

I know my older Hyundai has a chain. My newer Sonata, I'm not sure - they're arguing about that on the Hyundai forums!
