pcv system 200 1987

Hi folks, jim adams here with more on my 87 245. thought i had the cold hard/no start fixed, however i was mistaken. replaced the AMM and the car started and ran great, then we got a winter storm with freezing temps and she didn't want to start. Waited a few days until it warmed up some and started right up. not worried too much about that now. I have another concern i want to address.
Does any one out there know if there is a site out there that has a clear, detailed diagram of the pcv system? i have searched for a good easy to read and understand one and have had no success. If I cannot find one, would anyone be so kind as to write out how the hoses go? I really want to get the pcv system right on this because it can cause other problems, one of which seems to be going on right now as the gas mileage seem to be worse than before. OK, thanks to you all for your help. Jim.

This is the 240 81-87 PCV system.

    A Flame trap holder

    B Flame trap

    C Flame trap nipple

    D Oil Separator

E Oil Separator Box Return Hose

    F O-Ring

    G Crankcase Vent Hose

    H PCV Breather Hose

Where the hoses go should be fairly self explanatory. Are they not still in place?

I think there is a relocation kit available but someone else will have to explain that.

Volvo 700/900 FAQ - Click FAQ!: pcv system 200 1987

The VOlvo 700 / 900 FAQ treats the PCV system on your 1988 240.

Copy and paste into a new browser tab or window:
    https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineSealsBeltsVent.htm

Or click FAQ and use the first window to find the Engine: Seals, Belts, Crankcase Ventilation page.

We also have Dave Bartons site the includes vacuum diagrams:

    https://www.240turbo.com/volvovacuumdiagrams.html

iPd sells an after market replacement kit for 100$. Not Volvo quality.
    https://www.ipdusa.com/products/11269/PCV-Breather-System-Kit-for-Volvo-IPD-9471644K-124712

Best to get all OEM parts for the PCV.

There is an early PCV piping setup for LH-Jetronic US market B230. You can fit the later version PCV piping parts used on 1989+.

I have the iPd after market PCV relocation kit and these parts are poorly made iwth the large PCV pipe from sort of rotting rather quickly.

    Diagram for 1988 PCV:

    Get the Volvo OEM parts.

After 33 years, the plastic bits will be brittle.

There is a drain back tube inside trhe engine oil sump. By now is very brittle and is secured inside the engine using a bracket. Break this, and you drop the oil pan to replace it.

Use the green OEM Volvo o-ring also. I think it is Victor Reinz made.

    Questions?

    Hope that helps.
