KYB Gas-A-Just Rear Shocks 444-544

I know there's been some chatter about KYB rear shocks so I'm just curious if they're worth installing in the rear of my 544. The part # is KG5552. Anybody have any experience?

Not directly -- but hopefully relevant. Back in the mid-80's I chose KYB Gas-Adjusts for my 911. I was very pleased with their performance. Just didn't want to fork over the $$ for Bilsteins or Konis. In the last 6 months, I bought a set of KYB Gas-Adjusts for the rear of the 1973 Toyota Corolla that I'm building. VERY pleased - they replaced a set of Competition Engineering drag racing shocks that were crap for the street. KYB's - firm, taut, well controlled. I'm a happy camper.

      KYB Gas-A-Just Rear Shocks 444-544

When I bought my 1800e it had Gas-a-just on 4 corners. I found them extremely harsh, to the point where normal driving was jarring. The back end would jump sideways when cornering and meeting an imperfection in the road. If I were racing on a track, I think they’d be good for that, but for everyday driving I found them far too stiff. Replaced with standard shocks and the ride is comfortable.

Handling not quite the same, but I’m no longer “testing the limits” when I drive. There’s shocks out there that you can actually adjust to meet your needs. Bilstein, Koni?

      Gas-a-just is a misnomer, they’re not adjustable.

        KYB Gas-A-Just Rear Shocks 444-544

I bought an Amazon that had fresh pair of the Gas-a-Justs on the rear. As with C1800, I found them very harsh and I too had the back end jumping out on bumpy corners even at relatively low speeds. These were the white ones with red writing. Removed them and fitted a pair of basic Monroes. Comfort with good damping was the result. There may be alternate KYB models that are more suitable and a lot softer. If you want adjustability it will cost you. If you want comfort and decent performance, there are suitable standard, but non adjustable ones available.
