    Hi,

I'm touching up a 90 240 sedan in polar white at the moment. I haven't found anything off the shelf that matches very well.

A local auto parts store that sells paint mixes the 189 in a rattle can for $22 and it matches perfectly on parts not exposed to the sun. It's a hair darker otherwise, but noticeable only if you look hard.

It's single stage acrylic enamel, and if you're shopping for it I'd recommend asking for a SEM can which has the best spray nozzle.

I usually apply 3 coats 10 minutes apart. I've found that by using a cheaper generic white enamel for the first 2 coats and the mixed paint only for the final coat, I get the same results with 3 times the coverage.

Another option is to apply the first 2 coats and then let them dry 48 hours. Then sand with 600 and top coat with the 189.

    regards, Peter

Thank you Peter. There is actually a paint supply shop here in Miami that will make the single stage (base color plus clear coat in one can ) rattle can at $25 a pop for 8 ozs. I was hoping for a more economical solution. I like the idea of using a generic white then the single stage after that. I got an online quote from a chain paint shop and the estimate was 1100- 1800 bucks , yikes! I am not looking for perfection. I did a panel on one of my other vehicles and I obtained that paint from automotive touchup paint llc. There are a few options for me. Thanks

I've done a color match at what was then 20Ys ago, a full service local auto parts store. They supplied mixed-to-code paint --- Quart min. did it for a Green 142 on an 80 and a Silver ---the # escapes me.

They were matches, but unless you did an entire panel, it would show...called UV Exposure/Age of the on the metal paint. I had the frnt pass door spray painted by a body shop and you could still see that ===there is painted door-

Don't know what you are trying to do. But any orig paint exposed to the elements can never be matched to the on the car paint.

Get a quart or whatever the min is from a AutoPaint supplier. LifeTime supply unless you need more than a panel coated.

I think you need to go to an auto paint shop, they should be able to match anything. Getting something "off the shelf" which matches a Volvo colour will be practically impossible I think?

I agree with Ian. However, if you don’t have spray equipment then I recall seeing a place on the web that can provide virtually any paint code mixed for you in a rattle can.

Paint scratch.com put together a reasonably priced white, forget the number, primer,a super trigger and finish coat all in rattle cans.
