Replacements seats...................again 444-544 1963

I found some possible replacement seats for my 63 PV. 2007 BMW 325. Power, no airbags in perfect condition. I'm sure they won't last too long and I'm looking for some help on Brickboard. The mounts are 14.375" in length and 18" wide. Since I am at work, I cannot verify if those dimensions will work. Anyone out there have a few minutes to check their seats? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking the width is closer to 11" Thanks in advance.

BTW - Junk yards are supply and demand - I found that there is a sweet spot - some newer seats are cheaper than older seats in good condition.

I easily put 850 seats in my 544. The only mistake I made was not taking the back seat also. The 850 has the advantage that the passenger seat folds.

At the junk yard I found an 850 with intact windows - the seats are cloth - with no AC, leather may be a problem summer or winter.

I saw an article on narrowing a bench seat - cut some out of the middle. I have a nice rear seat out of a 240 wagon - it folds.

My driver's seat is still electric - I have not wired it in yet, I hook the controls to the battery directly - I am the only driver anyway.

I disabled the side airbag but later found out I could have retained it.

There is 2 to 3 inches if height adjustment in the base of of the 850 seat.

I removed the mounts from the bottom of the 850 seats and had 3 inch by 1/2 inch aluminum bars welded ace\ross the seat base - I lost 1/2 inch of height I wish I had them welded flush with the bottom of the seat base.

I removed the sliders from the 544 and cut a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to use as a template, I mounted the plywood to the car using the existing holes and worked out where to mount the bars. then I cut away some plywood at the front and rear to provide foot room.

I copied the template onto 1/4 inch aluminum.

Woo Woo - I have comfy Volvo seats in my 544!

Thank you for providing a very detailed answer to my question. I like the template idea. Wish I would have thought of that with my first attempt ! Did you have any issues with the width of the 850 seats?

No issue with width of the 850 seats.

At first I thought that I could not accommodate the trigger for the side air bag, but after I was done, I found that I could have saved it and the side air bag.

the trigger for the bag is in the side of the seat and there is no electrical wiring - just two plastic tubes that I cut.

I bought a Duett van a good few years ago, no longer with me. The passenger seat was a VW Beetle one. Very similar to the PV one. Can't remember how it was adapted but you should be able to get one or a pair for small money to try out. Seat covers readily available.
