Body VIN number 444-544 1958

I cannot find a VIN number on my 58 PV444. Where will I find it?

On my 444 what passes as VIN number is the serial number on a plate riveted to fire wall on right side. There is also what I term a body number stamped into the firewall on left side next to the fusebox.

You have that reversed. What passes as the vin number, actually the serial number, is stamped on the firewall. The plate with the number is the body number used by the factory to track the bodys as they came on line to be fully assembled and then be assigned a vehicle serial number. Yes, many were registered with the number on the plate, incorrect, but what happened.

New info for me. Makes sense because the tag has the paint info, etc. that is body specific. The stamping is "permanent". Thanks. A 444 in Iowa is on the book incorrectly.

Best to keep your head down, I have an 1800 that is also registered incorrectly...saw it when I bought it, easier to carry on than make a fuss...

Ok, no one has answered with asked for information. This site has a search tool. I did that and found this, I do know that serial number locations changed over the years on many classic volvos, but this might help.

“ There is a serial number stamped into the firewall under the fuse box.”.

I've been told VIN numbers weren't stamped in the body until later years. However on a 58 445 I've found a stamped number on the frame under the radiator.
